Chapter 23

I thrash around in the mans strong hold but he just grips me tighter. Then to my surprise he carries me to one of the doors and walks inside the room. He puts me down and I stumble forward, gasping for air. I turn around, ready to fight when the man grabs my shoulders gently, the way that Ed often does. The man is tall and masculine, his defined muscles are showing through his tight grey shirt. He looks about 16 years old and has blue eyes the glisten and short ginger hair. My eyes widen in realisation.
"Mason?" I say. He nods.
"Mum!" He says, embracing me tightly. He is a lot taller than me now, oh he is probably as tall as Ed!
"How did you grow so fast? It's only been a week!" I say.
"The death touch moved faster than Dan thought it would." He says still hugging me. His voice has dropped and is a deep soothing sound in my ears. I can't believe I missed seeing my son grow into his teen years.
"We need to get out of here mum. I was about to escape but knew I couldn't do it alone. Then I felt our bond and came looking for you." He says. He takes my hand and we run forward And out if the building full of dead vampires. We go back to the car where we all agreed to meet which does not take long. We can move as fast as we want now that there's no point in being discrete. The others are already there. Mason runs up to his father who examines him with pride while I sand back and watch the beautiful reunion of father and son. Then Ed looks at me and his face drops.
"Skyler! Look out!" But it's to late.
"Mum!" Mason says.
The Vampire who had threatened to break my sons neck a week ago has come up behind me. He grabs my head and twists. There's a sickening crack and then everything goes black into nothingness.
