Because of how much Rasi's mother had to work, she didn't have time to put money in the bank and manage it. This resulted in Rasi learning to be responsible for all the money that her mother earned. She learned how to manage the money, kept a bank book, and logged everything for safety purposes. She kept it all in a safe with a secret combination that only Rasi and her mother knew. Rasi's mother would always ask Rasi before withdrawing money, she valued how Rasi was able to take care of everything so she always asked for her permission before doing anything.

"Why? Is there something you want to buy?" Rasi said. Her mother looked nervous. "

I just...wanted to buy a little something, I've had my eye on it for a while..."

Wait. No...no....It can't be.

"Mom...we agreed to not buy things that are unnecessary, you know that we need to save money." Rasi said.

"I know honey but...I've worked extra hard this month and I've gotten some extra money, I just wanted to use that money to buy a gift for myself."

No. No. I don't want to hear this again. Rasi thought. She tried to cut off the vision by closing her eyes, but nothing happened. No! Stop! Please, I-I don't want to relive this again!

"It's just a small piece of jewelry, plus, I'm using the extra money to pay for it!" Rasi's mom explained.

"Right...How much is it exactly?" Rasi asked

"Ummm...aunderedandfifty" Rasi's mom sputtered.

"A hundred and fifty? Let me see." Rasi went to the safe and pushed in the combination. The door of the safe opened wide.

No, stop! Please!

Rasi scanned through the bank book log, then shook her head.

"Mom, you can't buy it, you've only made a hundred extra."

"Well, I'll work harder next month and I'll get the fifty to make it up."

Rasi looked her mother straight in the eye. "We promised that we wouldn't do loans here. You can't buy it ok? Just wait for next month then you can get it." Rasi was irritated, her mom never wanted to buy unnecessary things. Rasi was overwhelmed with her school work already, she didn't want to have to also stress about whether she would have enough food to eat or not. Or a place to live.

Rasi's mom looked irritated too, Rasi was always kind hearted, always giving second chances, clearly something was wrong. "Honey, if we just break the rules this one time, I'm sure nothing will be-"

"No mom. We talked about this." Rasi said coldly, "I don't want to talk about this anymore, just wait for next month." She was losing her temper, she went back to working on school work, but couldn't focus.

Just stop it! I don't want to see this! Please!

"Rasi. I'm your mother. Firstly, you have to speak more politely towards the person who gave birth to you. Secondly, I have the power to still deposit mo-"

"Enough!" Rasi yelled, cutting her own mother off. Her mother had tipped her off the edge.

"You put me in charge of this money, so I am the only person who has the power to withdraw and deposit the money! You are abusing your power as a mother! You are putting our home and safety and food all at risk. Even if it's just fifty bucks, a lot can happen."

Rasi scoffed,"But you wouldn't know anything about that, would you? No. That's right. Because you never worked late nights, depositing money in the bank, writing down notes and making memos to make sure we will not go on debt and starve. That we will not have to live on the streets! That we will not have to suffer. You're wanting, just a freaking piece of jewelry is total BS!"

Rasi breathed heavily, tears streaming down her cheeks. She couldn't stop now. "And furthermore, you don't care if we starve, because I'm the only one who's really suffering. You never even ca-"

Smack

She had a red mark on the left side of her face. Her face was soaked. It stung. It hurt. But it didn't hurt as much as how Rasi's mother felt. Rasi had poured out all her anger, her rage, her darkest moments out on her mother, blaming her for all the stress she was dealing with. Even if it wasn't her mother's fault.

Please...Stop...I...I can't do this. Rasi thought

Rasi's mother also let out all her anger, but it was much quicker, faster, easier. A movement of an arm. A high-five to the face. The realization hit Rasi's mother. She had just slapped her own daughter. Her only daughter. The person who loved her most. Or so she thought.

Rasi turned her face towards her mother. Her eyes, no longer filled with rage, but guilt. And sadness. Embarrassment. She turned, bolted out the door, and slammed it behind her.

"Rasi no!" her mother called after her. It was too late. She was gone. "no...I-I-what have I done...I'm a monster...I-I-I'm a mistake..." Rasi's mother ran into her room, locking the doors behind her.
