Chapter thirteen
I kinda left on a cliffhanger, so just to recap, nala and jehanne just found ray in the town centre the day after the fight.
“Her hazel eyes scanned my face with apprehension as if expecting me to yell or something."
I turned to jehanne who looked as if she was unsure whether to grin or leave us too talk alone. Obviously choosing the latter, she turned to me. “well I've got to go.. Skye texted me about.. Something important, so I got to run sorry guys!" she lied, briskly walking away before either of us could anwser.
We walked to her house in silence. When she had to unlock the door I figured we were alone. I followed her up to her room and Sat on her bed awkwardly shuffling as she sat next to me, brushing my arm slightly. “nala?" “mm?" “look at me." she placed a hand softly under my chin, bringing my head up until my eyes met hers. “sorry I wasn't in school.. Also i-" she stopped, shoving her hands in her pockets and pulling out her phone, typing the password in. I quirked an eyebrow in confusion, until, after scrolling for a few moments, ray passed me the phone, blushing slightly.
I looked at the phone screen suspiciously. It was a message screenshot. My eyes softened as I read. “you broke up with rosie?" I said in a hoarse voice, looking up at her. “yeah.. I would of.. Em, done it face to face, but I get distracted, and I would of said it wrong.." she said quietly, looking guilty. Did she really think I would think she was a coward for not doing it face-to-face? I handed her the phone back and I couldn't read her expression- she just stared at me blankly, and I gave up trying to figure her out, so I just said softly “you alright?" she jumped slightly as I shuffled closer, taking her hand in mine, brushing off any selfconcious thoughts of whether my hands were clammy or if my breath smelt-we were quite close. “what are you doing?!" she said, glaring at me with a cold look on her face “i- sorry, it's a habbit, remember, I'm a dickhead.." she said in amusement. I smiled before looking at her seriously, faltering slightly as we made eye contact. I was still in the awkward crush phase were even eye contact catches me off guard. I started again determinedly. “so-uh. What happened with Brooke, anyways?" I asked and she looked un-phased. “well not much really, I was sat on the bench by the chippy-you know, where we first met and you-" she stopped, blushing, before continuing as if she hadn't just blurted out something cute. “and I was just smoking, when I heard some glass smash near the bench. It was Brooke, she was obviously drunk, and she'd thrown a glass beer bottle at me- thank God she was drunk, she obviously has a bad aim when shes drunk- it landed next to the bench thankfully. She basically started yelling at me, calling me all the names under the sun, so I just walked away, she was drunk and not in the right frame of mind so it would be wrong to fight her in that state.” I nodded and she continued “But then later on, I was leaving the bar and walking down the pathway beside the library- shortcut to my house- when I heard footsteps, and before I had a chance to turn around someone yanked my hair from behind. Hard. Fucking hell it hurt. And before I could react, I was shoved into the wall- it was at this time I saw it was her, not that I had a doubt, but anywho..” she paused, running a hand through her already-messy quiff. “she threw a few week punches, kicked me in the shins, pulled my hair again- fights like a ten year old, that one..- so yeah, she was yelling at me to leave you alone, attempting to blackmail me, and failing miserably." she smirked “then she decided to punch me square on in the face, catching her nail" she pointed to the small scratch on her cheek. “I wasn't going to stand there and take it obviously, but I knew how bad her punches were by now," she smirked “so I punched her a few times, and somehow we ended up on the floor." she pulled a discusted face “out of everything, this is what I regret, mind you. Ugh the floor? But that isn't the point. So yeah, a few more lunches were thrown before I said something," I raised my eyebrows in question “finee- If you really must know what I said.. I said that she should leave you alone because you are uhh amazing and you deserve more then scum like her- at which point she SPAT in my face," she winced “so I told her to leave for good, before yanking on her hair- she deserved it, he did it to me- before leaving. Yep that's about it." I nodded “its weird though, she came into school looking really smug." “huh. Don't worry shell be gone soon." I grinned at the arogant smirk plastered on her face. She noticed me staring and she looked nervous before replacing it with her “I'm a badass with no feelings" look that used to fool me all the time. “sorry about brooke.." I said quietly and her eyes softened. “it isn't your fault." “so," deciding to lighten up the atmosphere with a joke I said with a confident smirk “I'm amazing am I?" her head shot up to look at me with an all too familiar glare. “shut up..” I would of been offended, but her blush told me she didn't really mean it. She stood up, turning to me. “wanna watch carmilla with me?" she said with a grin and I tilted my head in question and her eyes widened “oh my god you've never seen carmilla?! Well now you simply HAVE to!" she crouched down, looking under her bed before pulling out a cardboard box with “Web-series" written on in messy handwriting in thick black marker pen. “yeah it's a webseries, so I decided to get it copied to a disk rather then constantly watching it on YouTube." she grabbed her laptop -decorated with stickers that said “be thankful I'm not a twin" “I love women, I can't even think straight" “carmilla creampuff" “May contain traces of nuts" and “a real girl isn't perfect, and a perfect girl isn't real." on, and put the cd in, half laying, half sitting on her bed, leaning against the wall. She looked at me expectantly, raising an eyebrow and patting the space beside her. Before carmilla had even started I realized how close we were sat. Carmilla was a webseries, with only one season so far and each episode was five minutes long, but there was a lot of episodes. By episode four I was already into it. -Spoiler alert- It's about a girl called laura who goes to college, before her room-mate and bestfriend mysteriously disappears, leaving a card saying she has left the college for good -without saying goodbye or taking her belongings- and no one seems to care except laura. Then she gets a “replacement room-mate" who happens to be the really hot , lesbian head-teachers daughter, who is lazy, arrogant and Moody, and may I add A VAMPIRE. After episode eleven, I looked down at ray and my stomach did a backflip. The sight that greeted me was over-whelmingly adorable and- shut up nala you stupid soppy cliche teenager. Ray was asleep, leaning against my shoulder, her warm breath fanning my neck, one hand still clutching the cd case loosely, and one wrapped around my waist softly. I tore my eyes away reluctantly, feeling like a creep, before turning back to carmilla.

“I broke up with Rosie. I've decided I need to man up and admit how I feel for you nala. I lo- I like you. A lot and I understand if you don't like me back but I n-"
The end of lunch bell rang loudly at that moment and ray gave me a sad look, narrowing her eyebrows slightly. I looked at her questioningly before dropping my bag on the floor and patting the spot next to me, silently asking her to sit closer. “I guess I could skip one lesson for you.." I said with a smirk and she shook her head in amusement. “carr-yy on..." I mumbled dizily, realizing just how close we were. We were close enough that I could feel her warm shaky breath ghosting over my cheeks, and I could see the almost invisible indent on her chin, and the crinkles by her eyes, and the sheer beauty of Ray was actually breath-taking. Up this close I could see that her lips were slightly chapped with bite marks in, and her eyes were a mixture of hazel and murky green. Her eyes scanned mine almost anxiously before she drew breath and began hesitantly talking again. “I want to be with you nala.." she said with a bit of uncertainty, as she drew her eyes from mine as if fighting an inner battle of what to do and how to act. She ran a hand through her hair in a mixture of exasperation and confusion, my eyes lingering on her hair for several seconds before my gaze found her lips, which she unconsciously licked as she caught me staring. The several second silence that followed what uncomfortable and the tension in the air was stifling. I then realized, mentally facepalming to myself that she was waiting for me to say something..
“I like you too."
Within a second her lips were on mine and I closed my eyes feeling slightly awkward- apparently everyone's first kiss in a relashionship is awkward anyway- but it soon faded away as I melted into the kiss, our mouths moving in sync. Her lips were soft but slightly rough because they were chapped but the mix made it better. She nibbled on my bottom lip slightly and just as I opened my mouth to let her slip her tounge in she pulled away. “that was.." “yeah." I agreed before she finished, inwardly smirking at her flushed cheeks.

And then I woke up. To ray, smirking at me knowingly before shuffling closer.
