Later that day, around 4pm, Abby got a call. Her phone started singing the chorus of "Kiss My Country Ass" by Blake Shelton and she picked it up. The man said,
"Hello, are you Chase's owner?"
Abby answered,
"Yes, I am."
The man said,
"We gave him pain medicine through his I.V. after the procedure. I just wanted to call you and tell you that everything went as planned. No complications, he'll be ready to go home by Sunday."
Abby said,
"Oh, good. Only two more days!"
Bob said,
"That's what I think, now. But, the latest will be next Wednesday."
Abby said,
"Oh okay. So it just depends on him and his recovery plan."
Bob said,
"Yes, exactly. Thank you for understanding."
She responds,
"Yeah. I know y'all are doing everything y'all can to help him, and for that, I thank you."
Bob said,
"Welcome, I've got to go. I'll keep you posted."
Abby acknowledged,
"Bye. Take good care of Chase."
Bob said,
"We will" and hung up.
"Well, okay," Abby said. I walked up to her and put my paw on her leg. I was just as worried as she was about Chase. I knew he'd come home with a big, clunky cast on his leg and we'd have to make him stay still as he healed. Obviously, he'd be able to go outside to the bathroom to pee or poop. No need to put him through more pain then he's already in.
Well, we went by to see Chase the next day and he was in a cage recuperating from his surgery yesterday. Abby found Dr. Bob and asked him when Chase would be allowed to go home and he replied,
"Soon."
We visited for an hour and left, Chase was in no condition to be bothered too much, he just wanted to recover enough so that he could go home.Back at home, I went out for my usual bathroom break and came back. Abby sat on the back porch and had music playing on her IPhone. We stayed out there for hours and, when the sun went down, Abby left the porch and went back in the house to grab the truck keys. She then proceeded to go back outside and let the tailgate down. She jumped onto it and I leaped beside her. We sat on the tailgate for a while, then went in for the night. Abby's house was out in the country where life was full of Georgia charm, redneck good times and the southern life style.
I woke up on Abby's pillow and looked around. I licked my lips, my throat was dry, and got up to go to my water bowl. I carefully deciphered what path off the bed I'd take. I decided on jumping down on the floor and carefully making my way downstairs. I drank some and jumped on the couch, which is where I slept the rest of the night. My dream was about Eagle. He and I were walking along the beach and playing in the water. We splashed each other and tore off after one another. This was a memory from our honeymoon. When I awoke from my dream, my eyes were wet. I guess I must've been crying at some point that night, probably wanting Eagle back. I was on the edge of the couch, curled up in a ball, when Abby walked in and clicked her tongue. I immediately looked at her, and she sat on the couch so that she could pet me. We stayed there another hour and then Abby got a frozen meal to eat. She got me some dog food and we enjoyed our breakfast, which was technically lunch, given the time. We both ate our food quickly and Abby went upstairs to take a shower. Whilst she was getting ready, I stayed downstairs.
