Chapter 3
“Well, I think the night went pretty well-” Gema had barely finished the sentence before Doug was pushing past her into her apartment, inviting himself inside. Gema sighed to herself, but said nothing, simply going to the kitchen to make coffee. She never made it though, for Doug grabbed her wrists and kissed her forcefully. Gema resisted him as he eagerly sought her mouth, his hands like shackles on her wrists, until Gema stopped resisting and simply let him kiss her, refusing to respond. Doug pulled away and frowned at her.
“Come now, Gema, we’ve been engaged for months, it’s about time we did this”
“I just….” Gema trailed off, and Doug took the opportunity to kiss her again. Gema let him again, this time squirming as he pushed his body against hers. She backed away until she found herself against a wall, and Doug pulled away, one of his hands leaving her wrist to touch her cheek.
“Let’s go to bed, hm? My mother told me she already talked to you about establishing an heir, so now we can just skip to the important stuff, begin our lives together” He moved to kiss her again, but this time Gema moved away, slipping out of his grip to stand behind him.
“Wait a minute, your mother told you about our talk? You seriously want to get me pregnant now? Before the wedding?”
Doug shrugged. “I don’t see why not, we’re going to get married and we’re going to have children, when is not important-”
“Of course when is important!” Gema pleaded with him, grabbing one of his hands in hers. “Doug, please, I’m just not ready for kids-”
“Just like you’re not ready to have sex with me?” He demanded, and she flinched at his harsh words. “Or just like you’re not ready to move in with me? Listen Gema” He started, pulling his hand from hers and crossing his arms. “the way I see it, you’re gaining a lot from this arrangement, far more than you’ve earned so far, so I suggest you start earning it, or someone else will” He threatened, and Gema swallowed, not able to speak. Doug left her then, with that threat hovering in the air, but for some reason, Gema barely even registered it. As she got ready for bed and turned off the lights, all she could think of were those golden brown eyes in that olive toned skin. What a pompous jerk! She told herself, settling into bed with a snort. If he thought she was just going to rollover and play dumb, he had another thing coming. He was probably some dumb associate of Doug’s, and hopefully she would never have to see him again.
Chapter 4
“Listen, I want us to go to a dinner at my mother‘s tonight, the Morgan‘s are going” Doug explained to Gema when he picked her up for work the following week. Gema tugged at her cardigan restlessly. She had barely gotten any sleep last night, and Doug’s demands first thing in the morning were not helping.
“I just don’t think I can make it, I have a lot of work to do in the office today” Gema muttered, and Doug shook his head.
“You’ll have to put it off, Gema, the Morgan’s run the most prestigious private elementary and preschool in the city, we have to get in with them now if we’re going to be placing our child there in two years”
“Two years?!” Gema squeaked, looking at Doug as he maneuvered his car around a stuck taxi.
“Well yes, naturally our child will go to preschool as early as possible, and two years old is perfectly acceptable to go to a private school”
