"Why?" Hoseok grumbled when the alarm went off. He had been working in the studio late the night before and hadn't climbed into bed until after midnight. He regretted agreeing to meet Jimin, Jungkook and their soulmate early this morning for coffee. He climbed out of bed and stumbled into his bathroom, turning the shower to hot. He stripped out of his clothes and stepped into the water, letting it run over his aching muscles. He was spending so much time in the dance studio lately and it was beginning to take a toll on his body.
He washed his hair and body before switching off the water. He grabbed a dark green fluffy towel and wrapped it around his trim waist. Hoseok was proud of his body. He had worked hard to keep it in shape and all the time he spent dancing was definitely helpful. After drying off, he pulled on a black t-shirt and a pair of ripped jeans. He stuck his phone and wallet into his pocket then picked up his phone. He sent Jimin a quick text letting him know he was on his way.
Hoseok locked the door behind him and left his apartment. Since the coffee shop was only a few minutes from his apartment, he decided to walk. The weather was cold and there was a fresh layer of snow on the ground, but he didn't mind. He pulled his gloves out his pocket and wrapped his scarf tightly around his neck.
When he arrived at the coffee shop, he could see Jimin and Jungkook through the window. They were sitting on the same side of a booth on either side of her. Jimin was whispering in her ear and Jungkook was pressing kisses to her cheek. Hoseok was happy to see their relationship flourishing. It had been a challenging start for the three of them. Their soulmate had hidden her mark since Jungkook had been dating another at the time. She lied about the mark and so did Jimin. It took a vicious attack on her from a jealous girl to bring the three of them together.
Hoseok watched them for a moment before heading into the coffee shop. He had gotten his mark almost a year ago and there was still no sign of his soulmate. He loved his simple mark, a string of music notes trailing down his spine. The mark was still gray, meaning he hadn't had skin-to-skin contact with his soulmate yet.
Hoseok waved at his friends before heading up to the counter and placing his order with the barista. Since the weather was cold, he wanted something hot and ordered a peppermint mocha latte. As he waited for his drink, he thought about the dance competition he was preparing to compete in. It would be held at the end of the semester. He had chosen to participate in the partner competition but hadn't yet found a partner he wanted to dance with. There were several talented girls in many of his dance classes, but they had soulmates. Although Hoseok wouldn't mind dancing with someone with a soulmate, some of those girls didn't care about their soulmates. They would flirt with Hoseok and Jimin, irritating both guys to no end.
Hoseok picked up his drink once he heard the barista say his name then joined his friends. Jimin slid out of the booth and joined Hoseok on the other side. Hoseok liked that about his friends. Knowing Hoseok didn't have a soulmate, they never flaunted their union in front of him. They held hands sure, but it was discreet enough so he didn't feel out of place when joining them. He was the only one in their tight group of friends that hadn't found his soulmate yet. Taehyung's soulmate was Jimin's cousin, Yoongi. They had found out on Taehyung's birthday last year. A girl was trying to hit on Yoongi, so Taehyung whipped off his shirt, baring his soulmate mark and kissed him right in front of everyone. She hadn't bothered Yoongi since. Namjoon and Jin had found out a couple of years ago and were currently in Europe. Namjoon was a famous rapper and had been touring the world for the last year.
Jimin slung an arm around Hoseok's shoulder. "Hey my friend," he said, his happy smile turning his eyes into crescent moons. "How's it going?"
Hoseok returned the hug then pushed Jimin off of him. He loved his friend but damn! He was so touchy and affectionate. It worked well for Jimin's soulmate since she loved that about him. "I'm good. Still trying to find a partner for the competition," he said.
Jimin laughed. "I'm definitely glad I agreed to go solo. I would hate having to dance with another girl," he said, staring at his soulmate, giving her a wink.
She giggled at his words. "I might have had to kick someone's ass. I know how seductive your dance moves are. It would have been terrible to watch you do that with someone else," she said, her smile giving her away.
Jimin smirked at her. "No worries baby. I only dance like that for you," he said, running his tongue over his plump lips causing her to blush.
Hoseok shoved Jimin's arm then turned to Jungkook. The guy had gone through a lot with the soulmate issue and Hoseok was happy to see him smiling again. They had worked hard to repair their friendship after Hoseok had punched him. Jungkook, not knowing she was his soulmate, had shouted some harsh words to her and Hoseok retaliated. She had been one of Hoseok's closest friends and he hated seeing her heartbreak as it did. "How's everything going JK?" he asked.
Jungkook nodded in response. "Good. I picked up a few extra hours at the clinic. If I get my clinical hours done by the end of the semester, I'll start my surgical internship at the hospital in August."
Hoseok gave him a grin. "That's great JK. I'm so happy for you," he replied. He noticed their soulmate's pout. "What's the matter pretty girl?"
She sighed. "I'm really happy for you too Kookie, but it's going to be hard to spend any time with you. You're going to be so busy," she said softly.
Jungkook pulled her into his arms. "I know sweetheart, but it's only for a little while. We can still have lunch together everyday and I will be home for dinner every night," he promised.
She smiled at him and hugged him tight. "I know Kookie. I'm just being a silly emotional mess," she replied.
Jungkook kissed her cheek. "I love that you're a silly emotional mess. And I love you," he said, his conviction showing in his eyes.
Hoseok watched the tender interaction. Although he was eager to find his soulmate, he did like witnessing the sweet moments between the trio. It showed that no matter how difficult things could be, there was a happy ending in there if you wanted it badly enough.
