I was sitting on my favorite Spot in Abby's café, the sea in front, everything behind me was my way of avoiding Abby. Having given my back to the indoor department, I could no longer get distracted by her.
The last two days, I didn't dare to call her since our little moment, messages were raw. Maybe I was afraid of what our "little" moment might upbring.
I just wanted everything in its normal way, nothing more than two people hanging out.
Lora didn't push me anymore, she knew how she could set me off guard, that was why she had mercy on me these days.
She gave me the space I needed for myself.. or maybe she was sick of my shit.
My phone started to buzz
It was her
'Maybe not giving me my space after all' I thought.
"Hey, asshole. Where are ya ?!"
"How do you have such a language and teach kids at school?!" I said, mocking her. However she ignored my silly comment and said, "there is some party tonight at ronter's street, how'bout for some party time?!"
"Party?! LoL, no thank you" I clenched my jaws.
"You are fun spoiler, Do you repel good timing on purpose?"
"Whose party anyway ?"
"Singho's, at their mansion."
"I don't know, Lor.. you go have fun." Looking at the see, a breeze came touching my face.
"as you wish." Annoyance and disappointment filled her voice. By that I put the phone back in my jacket pocket, leaning backward.
I closed my eyes for seconds only listening to the music playing in my ears and the cold air running on my face.
A wind came out of nowhere, scattering my drawings only to show Abby's portrait, only her facial features from my perspective. Time seemed to stop during my stares at the portrait.
I didn't get what I was feeling but I could hear my heart beating in my chest warming my cold extremes and placing good sensation to my cold core.
Some instincts urged me to call her as it was the most normal thing to do for checking up on her. I let go of that feeling, collecting my drawings and throwing them in my backpack.
Paying the check, I was on my way outside the café.
I couldn't help but wandering my eyes across the wide area filled with customers and tables.
She wasn't here.
~~~~~
The next two days, she didn't show up. I asked the waitress about her but she said she only comes at morning.
I thought if she were really avoiding me or it was something else.. somehow the first thought bothered me.
Friday, 5:00 PM
Getting off work, I was holding my phone on Abby's number.
'Should I call her or not ?' I thought.
I thought that I didn't know her last name, maybe I'll call her about that. I leaned on my car, hesitating about that one call I should make.
I touched the icon "call"
It kept on ringing till it switched to voicemail. I hung up, regretting the phone call.
I opened the car door, throwing my bag to the backseat then reopened the front door and started the engine.
My phone buzzed in my pocket, catching me off guard.
Abby's face was on the phone.
Simply I answered, "sorry, I didn't hear your call and-"
"No worries, I called you accidentally." I laughed nervously. 'Dumb lie, nice Sam!' I thought to myself.
Awkward silence filled with my intermittent breaths.
"Why don't we have dinner tonight?" She shrugged, yet no sign of hesitation was in her voice.
"Friends night out, sure."
"Okay, there's a pizza place I know and Love heavenly nearby, I'll send you the location."
"7 pm?"
"Sure. Meet you there?"
"Okay" by that I hung up.
I didn't know why but I was excited.
~~~~
Minutes later, I was back home, Lora was sitting on the sofa watching some horror movie wrapped up in a blanket.
"Hey." She said, not looking at my direction, her voice was calmer than usual.
"Something wrong?!" I took a place beside her on the sofa, kicking off my shoes.
"No, well little shitty fight with one of the kids parents.nothing biggy." She causally said, focusing on the woman being slaughtered on TV.
I patted her on the leg and got up.
"Where you going ?"
I'm going to get change and jump on the shower."
"Wow, why ? Is it a miracle?"
"Do I really smell most of the time?"
"A little." Smile appeared on her face. That was a good sign.
I shrugged, taking my way to my room. Her footsteps were behind me.
"What is behind this change ?"
"Just going out like every night."
She leaned on the door frame, throwing me suspicious look.
"No there's something else." She was thinking, "are you seeing Abby today ?" Her mouth turned up.
"We're going out for dinner."
"Oh my god! You are going on a date." She almost shouted from the excitement.
I raised my eyebrows, "it's definitely far from date"
"Yeah yeah!" Totally not buying it, then She added, "what are you going to wear?"
I shrugged, but she was already half way to my wardrobe passing through the mess in every corner in my room.
"Samuel, you really need to go shopping." She shouted, searching among my clothes without looking at me.
~~~~~~~
6:42 PM. I was fully ready to go out.
Lora forced me to shave my beard and mustache, she picked a proper white shirt I hadn't worn for months, clean jeans also I didn't wear for sometimes and my black half coat I always wore and finally she had finished her job with black leather shoes which- I thought - was unnecessary.
I put on my guess watch, a touch of a perfume around my neck avoiding to get near my recent shaved face.
Lora was so excited for me that I feared when she would realize that me and Abby were only friends that she would get disappointed. I threw last look on the mirror.
A fine looking man with smoother features were staring back at me. I looked younger than I  used to.
I didn't want to admit it but somehow my reflection made me lighten up a little. Lora came from behind me, resting her hand on my shoulder and talking to my reflection, "you know, last time we hang out with Abby, you were happiest, Sam. She makes you happier and I could see this happiness in your eyes.
"I thought you should know that. And by the way you look handsome." She kissed my right cheek and went back to the sofa. I didn't say anything, only smiling at her and left the apartment.
~~~~~~
After parking the car, I went for the door, pulling it, that's when I saw her sitting in a corner at some booth away from the noises made by other people.
Sharing eye contact, she smiled at me and I was on my way to her, counting every step I took.
When I was near she gave me a casual hug, that was when I took a good glance at her outfit.
Her clothes were lighter, she wore a long greenish dress covered her whole leg under a black leather jacket. I couldn't see her shoes but they were definitely her favorite black half boot, I was sure of it.
I sat on the opposite side of the booth, her face was makeup free except for that dark line over her eyes I thought it was called 'eyeliner' and red lipstick that I couldn't help but adore it. Her hair was straight as usual.
'I wondered about the taste of such a lipstick' I thought to myself then shook it off.
Her stripy greenish earrings, its end was resting on her shoulders. Her freckles were spotted on her nose. Her face was an art and I wished I could draw it right now.
"You look beautiful today" I said, adding "as usual"
"I could say the same to you." She said, pointing at the place where the beard used to be on my face.
"What happened to the beard?!" She asked.
"Lora happened." I almost laughed, she joined me and said, "Lora is a great person, she loves you unconditionally."
"I know, I lover her too." I said, "She's great because she made me remove the beard ?"
"Well, you look cuter without it so yeah" she smiled.
I smiled nervously but decided to remain silent.
"We should order, I'm starving." She said.
"Me too, I didn't eat anything since breakfast."
"No wonder why you're thin, Sam" she teased me.
"Gonna have pepperoni medium size". I said to the waiter. "And you?" I asked her.
"Medium?! Who are you ?!" She laughed, teasing me again.
"I'll have chicken ranch large size, extra spicy and coca."
"Add coca for me too." I added. By that, the waiter had left.
"You are not like the other types of girls, are ya?"
"I hate that concept."
"What concept?"
"Comparing me to others,"
"I mean you don't care about getting fat."
"Well no and secondly my sister just died so I think eating too much is the least of my concerns right now." She said causally, no mourning in her voice.
"I'm sorry." I said, regretting my question, she sensed my awkwardness and laughed, "Sam, I'm okay really." She assured me, I nodded, changing the subject. "So what's your last name?!"
"You don't know?"
"No" I shrugged
"William, yours?"
"Aaron"
Seconds later
"Let's play a game." She started.
"I'm all ears."
"This or that, familiar for that game?"
"Yes. You start."
"Okay..hmm.. Pepsi or coca?!"
"Seriously?" I laughed at her.
"It's a serious question, will determine how our relationship goes."
"Well, Pepsi ?"
"NO, wrong answer, always go for the coca." She almost shouted and I laughed harder now.
"They are basically the same."
"Oh no no, they are not the same like..at all." She protested so hard, she looked serious now, "you are laughing!!" She punched me on the shoulder.
"I'm sorry," through my laughs, i said.
"Your Turn"
"Money or love?" I said.
"DUDE! That's easy, money for sure." She said, waiting for my reaction. Out of nowhere, she started laughing, "kidding. neither for sure, wait, no I take it back! money for sure."
"Phone call or text?"
"Text" I said, "Dog or cat ?"
"Dog."
"Me too." I added.
"nice" she said. "Pop or indie?"
"Indie for sure" I was excited now.
"ME TOO" She joined me.
"Book or movie?"
"Movie, for sure." She said, "and you ?"
"I'd rather book." I said.
"Oh you geek" she said, teasing me for the millionth time tonight.
~~~~~~~
Food was served and we started eating, "how could you handle all these spices?"
"I love food and when I add to it spices, it's like a paradise for me.."
"I can't stand the spices."
"Do you have allergy ?"
"No! Well I don't think so but I hate them."
She cut a piece of her pizza and put it in my plate.
"I'm not eating that." Shaking my head, I said, she raised her eyebrows in disbelief "seriously I can't."
"You're such a baby." She took that piece back.
"I'm not." And I thought about it, recalling her mind games, "what's in it for me?!" I smirked.
"You wanna make a deal? Okay sure," she said, accepting the challenge.
"Have you ever ridden motorcycle before?"
"No, never actually" I answered, leaning backwards.
"Okay, here's the deal, you take a ride with me on my motorcycle"
"You have one ?"
"Yes" she smirked.
"Okay, in exchange of reading a novel from my own taste, how about that ?"
"Deal?" offering her hands, I took it.
"Deal"
~~~~~~~~
Getting outside the restaurant, she headed to the parked motorcycle which I had seen on my entrance to restaurant, I didn't imagine it belonged to her.
"You didn't tell me about the motorcycle thing before."
"You never asked." She started the engine, "well I didn't get you were the type-"
"Again with that stupid concept."
"Sorry" nervously, I said scratching the back of my head.
"You expected that the girl riding a motorcycle would be what? Full of tattoos and long curly brown hair?" Again, she teased me. Somehow that didn't bother me. Teasing meant that someone cared enough to notice your stupid habits.
She laughed, ignoring my stillness, she gave me her helmet, "what about you ?" And then out of nowhere she got another one from one side I didn't notice due to the darkness.
"right, a spare."
"How do you ride it in dresses?"
"Well I'm a girl who likes dresses and motorcycles, why can't I do both ?"
"Fair point."
"Get on, Sam" She said, parts of her leg were bare right now, "aren't you cold?"
"You sure have lots of questions, Sam"
I got on behind her, not sure where I should put my legs and my hands. I was closer than I should to her and somehow I didn't want it. That was too much for me with her mint chocolate smell. Then I thought of something.
"Wait, why don't you let me drive?" I smirked.
Her eyes drew no before she said, "no way, sorry I can't, don't trust you enough with this handsome."
"Handsome?!" I almost laughed.
"You know you're too weird"
"And you are too conservative, Sam"
"I ride bicycle, it's basically the same thing."
"NOT the same thing"
She hesitated for a second, "alright, but if you got us killed or worse, scratch this handsome, I WILL KILL YOU!"
"You're too weird." I told her, teasing her. She didn't care about my silly comment.
She showed me a quick tour on the bicycle, where the accelerator, the brakes were.
"Got it?"
"Yeah."
"Be careful."
"I know what I'm doing" I didn't know what I was doing. My body was overdosed with adrenaline now.
I started to increase the speed gradually, trying to find the balance of the motorcycle. Cold air was brushing my face,her hands were on my shoulders.
Once she started to trust my driving skills, She let go of her grip on my shoulder gradually, straightening her posture upwards for seconds before returning back to her previous seat. She shouted at the top of her lungs like the other day when we both did.
I joined moment later then returned my focus to the street in front of me. Her grip was around my waist now, leaning forward, I could feel her warmth against me and somehow that soothed me.
It was the most normal thing in the world.
I stopped at the nearest parking lot facing the sea. When I stood up, I almost fell on the ground but I regained my balance quickly.
My body was hot as the sun now from all the adrenaline and rush I'd felt moments ago. Somehow that was awesome feeling. The feeling of that adrenaline.
I was smiling widely. I took my way to the dark sea, sitting on the sand, relaxing my legs.
My heart which was once a cold one, was now racing to its maximum speed.
Abby came and sat beside me.
"How did you feel now?"she asked
"Free."
"Yeah." She smiled, looking at the sea like I was.
I took a glance towards her direction, she was peaceful.. like I was right now.
When she caught me staring, I moved rapidly my gaze towards the sea.
"I'm glad you're here" I said.
"Me too." She said, we were now looking at each other. I backed away quickly, standing up to the nearest bench I could see on the sidewalk.
"Why?!"
"Why what?"
"Why do you keep backing away?"
"I'm not."
"Sam" she said my name, standing up and moving towards her bicycle.
"Yeah." She was far away, the only light came from the street lamp that she stood under. I couldn't help but stare at her distant confused eyes.
"Do you like me?"
"As my friend, of course."
"SAM!" She shouted, moving to the other end of the sidewalk.
She turned around, still in the same spot, "I can't keep on doing that, one minute you look me with these stares as if you like me and other times, you're distant. Your signs are all mixed up." She was angrier now.
"Samuel, I just can't anymore." She started to walk away. "I need to be alone right now."
The keys of her motorcycle were in my hands. I stood up because of the pain made by my heart.
'You're gonna lose her.' I thought to myself and such a thought disturbed the peace and calm I just had because of her. The thought of losing her made me realize something I wanted to ignore for sometime, or maybe fooling myself that that thing wasn't there.. but damn it was all over my face, my heart knew it, my body knew it, just my stupid head was hiding from it.
I ran towards her, grabbing her arm gently to turn, when her hazel eyes met mine, I saw that she was crying now, her cheeks were rosy and I was speechless.
"What do you want, Sam?" Her voice was weaker, I offered her the keys. She looked me in disbelief, took them violently and got back to the opposite direction.
With one quick motion, I outran her and stood in front of her, blocking the way.
She wasn't looking at me now, "leave me alone!"
"No." I said, firmly now she looked at my gaze, "I can't leave you alone." She was silent, we both felt the spark right now clear and transparent.
I got closer to her,- she didn't back away- holding her warm rosy cheeks in my hands.
"No, Sam! It's always up to you, you get close when you like it and you back away when you like it. No" she backed away, pushing off my hands. However, I didn't move, "I'm an idiot for making you feel like that."
"Why now?"
"Because I couldn't bear the thought of you walking away from me."
She wasn't angry anymore, only searching for explanations, "you are such a piece of-" I didn't give her the time to let her complete the sentence. With one quick motion, I kissed her, my lips were on hers, at first she was surprised but then she realized what was happening. I didn't know that the spark between us was enlightened and up in the open right now.
'Her lipstick tasted like cherry' I thought to myself.
I rested my hands on her hair, she put hers around my lower back, our foreheads were against each other, breathing the same air. I could feel my heartbeats and hers.
Opening her eyes, I saw admiration there instead of anger.
"You were saying ?!" I asked her, smiling. She smiled back, Then she rested her head on my shoulder.
Her hair smelled like a good combination of sea salt and coconuts.
'Maybe I'd draw this moment later.' I thought to myself.
