Why isn't he hugging me, she thinks. Panic running through her brain. Until he wraps his arms around her. Just like they used to. Fitting perfectly together. As they always did. Nothing has made her felt safer than he did. Nothing bad can happen when she's in his arms.
"What's wrong? Why are you crying?" He pulls away to examine her tear-stained face.
"I've missed you so fucking much."
She can't do much than admire him. Realizing this is more than just missing him. This was her missing a piece of herself. And really, she thinks it's her fault. Leaving him broken. Has she even apologized? She can't remember. She probably did but... she needs to again.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. Fuck, Cooper, really I'm so-"
"Stop. Stop apologizing. Neither of us have anything to apologize for. Things happen, it's normal. And, hey, look at us. We're together right now, aren't we?"
"I'm so pathetic crying like this. God, can you just hold me? Can we just lay in bed without talking like we used to?"
All tension seems to release from her body as he nods. Relief flooding her body. She just really wants to go back to where they were. Grasp all the broken pieces of them, pulling them back together. Staying together. Sweatshirts on a pillow don't beat the real thing. And shit, has she missed the real thing.
