Dream

He's afraid he's going to wake up. He's afraid he's going to open his eyes and realize this was all just a dream.

Because the reality is that they are together now. The reality is that she's laying in his arms with her eyes closed, and her breath quite, as her head rests on his chest.

"I want to make you happy" He can't get any sleep, her hands are soft and her hair is tickling his nose and she's just so—

"I want to make you happy and I want to be with you, forever" He wants to make sure that she knows before he wakes up.

Her breath is steady and her eyes are closed and he's not really sure if she's actually awake.

"Me too" It's quite. But she says is it like it's the most natural thing in the world and he can't help but look at her, stare at her, as shes surrounded in his arms, in his bed, and in his life. "Can't sleep?"

"No" He plays with her hair because he can now. Because no one is stopping him from doing so and nothing ever will. "Tell me something"

She doesn't respond because she doesn't understand what he's asking.

"Anything. Tell me anything," He reassures.

She giggles, even if it's the most random request, but he's unpredictable like that. "Ok," He's like a box of chocolates, and even though it is the most cliche thing ever, she never really knows what she's gonna get. "I've always wanted to see the Pacific Ocean"

He smiles, it's just a statement, but he likes knowing these little details about her.

"I don't know why. I've just always wanted to lay on the beach, or listen to music, or paint— I honestly don't know" Her fingers play with the thin hairs on his chest. "I've just always wanted to go"

"Why haven't you gone?" It's a stupid pointless question that he knows the answer too, but asks anyways because he just wants to listen to her voice.

"Never got the chance. Never had time- or, I did have time but never felt like it was the right time or the right person"

"Who's the right person?"

She smiles up at him again. She knows that he knows. "You"

He's surprised he's not crying like a 6 year old girl right now because this is really all he's ever wanted. "We should go"

She laughs quietly and moves closer against him.

"I'm serious, Pam. Let's go"

"When?"

"Right now"

It's past midnight. It's dark and she's tired and he's not flushed with cash but he'll risk going broke for her as long as it means she's there with him for a little while longer.

She's exhausted, at the verge of passing out but for some reason she says "Yes," anyways.

So they drive. For hours and hours on a last minute road trip to see the Pacific Ocean because she told him she wanted to see the Pacific Ocean.

She cries when she sees the water, this fantasy she's had as a little girl is finally coming true and it's even better than she imagined because she's there with Jim. With the man who so desperately cares about her he drives across the country on a whim to make her happy.

He's fulfilling her dreams, but the truth is his dreams have only ever been associated with her. Associated with them and their relationship.

"I love you, Jim."

If this is a dream, he hopes he never has to wake up.
