I stare down at my screen, as the texts ping through. He always made the effort to text and call, even though he worked long hours. He constantly reminded me how amazing I felt and that the little things didn't matter. He was someone I wanted to spend the rest of my life with - grow with. Not just age, but as a person: mind, body and soul. I wanted him to be my everything.
He is like a breath of fresh air - something along those lines. He gave me a reason to want to be better. He made me strive for things. I couldn't explain it if my life depended on it. How could someone I hardly know, have so much control over my heart? He lived rent free in my mind, all the time. I met him about two months ago and it's been great since.
I look down at the text, swallowing the hard lump forming in my throat. He texted he made it to our meeting point. My thoughts are always jumbled when it comes to him, yet they were always so collected at the same time. First time we met, had a late night cruise. Second date, went for pizza and a drink. The third date, he brought me flowers and took me mini golfing. In a way, it's weird to date someone you met online, but somehow this felt different.
He parks his grey dodge truck beside my dodge, making my heart pound loudly in my chest. I could see his figure moving around in the dark before he got out of his truck and made his way to my passenger where he opened it and climbed in.
"Hey babe," he says, leaning over to give me a kiss on the cheek. I nod at him, blushing. Completely enthralled by him.
He gives me a soft smirk, "still nervous jumble," winking. In return I just blush harder.
* Two Weeks Later *
I breathe out heavily, shaking my hands as they start to clam up. My nerves are getting the best of me. Adam wanted me to come over to his house for the first time. He lives an hour away, and the distance wasn't the problem.
He said he had a surprise for me as well.
I look my makeup over in the mirror quickly before getting out, making sure to grab the bottle of wine I bought. I lock my truck doors before I walk up to the front doors. The towns street buzzed by with people as I wait for the door to be answered. Adam answers the door dressed in a nice shirt and jeans.
He gives me a smile, "love, you made it just in time," he lets me in and takes my coat to hang in the closet in the entry way.
It was a tan painted hallway into the kitchen, with wooden flooring. The kitchen was a dark oak with marble tops. It's a fair open kitchen, with an entry way leading into the living room.
Adam stood at the stove, stirring at something in a pot. He glances over at me and sees that I'm watching. He drops his utensil to come over to me. He pecks me on the lips softly before taking the bottle of wine.
"Would you like a glass?" He asked as he searched through his cupboards for wine glasses.
I nod, "please."
I watch Adam pour us both a glass, bringing them over to the island in the kitchen. Sitting myself down at the bar stools, Adam goes back to stirring what's on the stove.
"I hope you like roasted chicken and potatoes?" Adam asks with his back turned to me.
"Sounds delicious..what's in the pot then?"
Adam turns to me, "gravy."
In the light of the evening, we ate - which I'll add was delicious. Adam topped it off with chocolate covered strawberries and by surprising me with roses and a pair of earrings. I'm not one to wear much jewelry, but somehow these just felt special. The bottle of wine was long gone.
