Once upon a time there was a handsome prince who lived in a large, gorgeous, white castle. His family's kingdom was lavish. Everyone was wealthy and wanted for nothing. Because of this, the prince got everything he wanted immediately when he asked for it.
But the outskirts of the kingdom didn't live in the wealth that the center towns did. The people out there were suffering. They barely had enough food, there was no medicine to heal their sick, and little to no jobs were available besides farming.
There was one peaceful family that lived in the outlying town of Goheung who had a daughter in her early twenties who wanted to do the most she could for her family.
So the young woman decided that she would go into the inner cities to find a job. Her search led her to the castle where she quickly got a job as a house servant. She worked long hours cleaning the many guest rooms, drawing rooms, tea rooms, sitting rooms, libraries, offices, and any other room there was. She was not seen, heard, or known about as she went about doing her chores. The woman was happy for this job. She was well-paid for her work, she sent back everything she didn't use for herself back to her family and village.
It was many months after the young woman began working at the castle that everything changed for the worse.
The woman was in the garden writing a letter home to her family like she did every week on her one day of free time. As she read over her letter, she hummed a soft tune, she didn't notice that she was no longer alone in the garden.
The handsome prince was walking through the garden when he heard the young woman humming. He followed the sound of her voice to behind a hedge of roses where there was a hidden alcove with a wishing well and a stone bench. When his eyes landed on the girl, his breath got caught in his throat.
The young woman was gorgeous in his eyes. All she was doing was sitting there reading over the letter and humming to herself. But he couldn't take his eyes of the woman in front of him.
It was at this moment that the prince decided that he would have this naturally beautiful woman to himself. She would be his love, his wife, his everything. He walked over to the woman and stood behind her, looking over her shoulder.
He read the first few lines of the letter, seeing that she was writing home. That's when he finally spoke up, "You're writing home?"
The woman jumped and spun around to face him. Her eyes widened when she saw the man who was in so many of the royal paintings all around the castle. She quickly stood up before she lowered herself into the lowest curtsey she could manage.
"Your highness," she greeted from her curtsy. "I beg for your forgiveness. I did not hear you approaching."
The prince was smirking down at the woman who was staring at the ground. She actually believed that she needed to bow before him. If anything, he should kneel to her great beauty. And that voice, he had never heard anything so beautiful. He wanted to hear it for the rest of his life.
"Please stand, girl," the prince said. She did as she was told yet she didn't look him in the eye. "What is your name?"
"Hayan," she whispered. "It means pure white."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Hayan. I am-"
"Prince Jimin," Hayan interrupted. "Working in the castle, I've learned about you." She then gasped. "I'm sorry Your Majesty, I didn't mean to interrupt you."
"Oh, Hayan. It is alright," the prince said. "Where are you from, beautiful?"
"Goheung, your highness."
"That is far from the castle. Did you just come here to work in my household? Why come so far?" the prince asked.
"My family needs the money. Our village is poor so I decided to come to the inner city to find work. I send whatever money I don't use to them. And whatever money my family doesn't use, they give to the people of my village."
