"I need you to steal something for me," the man who sat across from me said.

I took a long chug of my beer before slamming the mug down on the table in front of me. I didn't care if the man looked at me strangely. I was the only woman in here, but the regulars in here knew that this was a normal thing for me.

"What is it that you need stolen?" I asked. It wasn't the first time someone has come to the tavern to ask me this question.

"An ingredient for a potion," the man said.

"Just buy your ingredient. My cost is too high for a simple ingredient," I snapped.

"This ingredient is incredibly rare. And you'll get some of the potion as part of your payment," the man said.

"What is the potion?"

"It's an everlasting life potion. You'll be able to live forever."

That caught my attention. Everlasting life? I could get out of my life of poverty and live like the dragons, rich and fat.

"And how much am I going to be getting in units?" I asked as I took a sip of my beer.

"Five hundred thousand," the man said quietly and clearly.

I spit out the beer in my mouth. A good job would give me maybe a thousand or two, but no where near five hundred thousand. I could quit stealing and live that fat and happy eternal life that I want.

"Did I hear that correctly? Five. Hundred. Thousand?" I wondered.

"Yes. So are you in?" the man asked, nervously looking around. "If you agree, you can't back out. This needs to be kept between as few people as possible."

"Yes. I am. So what am I stealing?" I asked. "Is has to be something pretty rare to be paying me so much."

"Um, it's a . . . a dragon scale . . . a scale of each of the . . . seven dragon kings," the man stuttered and stumbled over his words.

"You can't be serious!" I shouted. Half the tavern - the half that wasn't drunk - turned to look at me.

"Quiet down!" the man shushed.

"The seven dragon kings? They never let their scales shed is front of anyone. And they never let anyone into their castle," I hissed at the man. "How the hell am I supposed to steal a scale from each of them?"

"That's what I'm paying you to figure out to do," the man said. "And I can tell you everything I know about the kings and their scales. I can help you succeed."

"And you can tell my family what happened to me when the Kings burn me to a crisp," I said.

"You don't have a family, Y/N."

"But it's the thought that counts."

So we planned on meeting up the next day so he could teach me everything I needed to know. The man had a surprising knowledge about the King Dragons and their castle.

The Kings' castle was on the side of a cliff. The only way into the castle was scaling the cliff or with wings. And since I don't have wings, I'll have to scale the side of the cliff. The courtyard was large enough for a dragon to land, and the doors would only open to the touch of the Kings. I would have to scale higher into the windows of one of the towers.

And once I got in, I would have to avoid walking through the hallways and walk through the servant passageways. The scales were kept in the treasure room. So I had to find the treasure room without getting caught by the Kings.

Once I found the scales, I would need seven different colors; red for the fire dragon, brown for the earth dragon, blue for the water dragon, white for the air dragon, yellow for the light dragon, black for the night dragon, and green for the life dragon.
