dakota wore a tight black dress, the straps were thin and there was lace running along the chest. dakota wasn't huge on dresses, so when she was forced to wear them she tried her hardest to make them look nice.
dakota only owned three dresses, the girls wardrobe wasn't very girly. she had a few mini skirts but they were decorated with plain dark colours. her wardrobe mainly consisted of jeans, vintage t-shirts and sweatshirts.
her usually curly hair was straightened and her signature denim was nowhere to be seen. but her black rings still decorated her fingers and her large hoop earrings remained.
the front door swung open quickly, the door colliding with the wall, making the girl known to the household. dakota winced after the collision, she didn't fancy seeing her parents today and knew she had blown her cover.
"dakota, is that you?" her mother called out, heading over to the front door.
the brunette stepped inside, shutting the door behind her, much more calmly this time. "yes, mom," she replied, turning to be met with a hug.
"woah!" dakota chuckled, "whatcha doing there?". her mother very rarely hugged her and it make dakota rather uncomfortable.
"i haven't seen you recently," she replied plainly, unravelling her arms from her daughter.
"oh, i know," dakota exhaled, smiling so sweetly it hurt.
"look at you," her mother took in dakota's appearance, tugging at the tight dress, "i haven't seen you in a dress since you were nine years old". then the woman's eyes fell down to dakota's legs, a disappointed sigh escaping her lips. dakota noticed this and rolled her eyes. "you make the effort of putting on a dress for once and you can't find a decent pair of tights?".
dakota looked down to see her thin black tights covered in scags and holes. "they're the only pair i own, mom. besides, i need to keep my reputation somehow," dakota retorted, folding her arms over her chest like a grumpy teenager.
her mother merely hummed, "and those shoes...".
"what's wrong with my shoes?" dakota sighed, unfolding her arms, defeated.
"they're a bit of a statement, don't you think?".
dakota looked down at her feet, kicking her foot out aimlessly. they were basically her combat boots with a heel, she liked them. "well, i like them. make me taller," she grinned sarcastically, looking back up at her mom.
"i suppose that's all that matters," her mom flashed her a smile which dakota knew was forced.
"is xander ready?".
"i believe so," her mom answered, glancing carelessly over her shoulder in direction of the basement. "great," dakota went in that direction before her mother stopped her.
"do wish buffy happy birthday for me," she smiled, reaching out and tucking some of dakota's brown hair behind her ear. the girl nodded in response, mumbling an 'okay'. "you should wear your hair like this more often. makes you look much better. tidy, mature".
