"Come, gentle night; come, loving, black-browed night. Give me my Romeo. And, when I shall die, Take him and cut him out in little stars, and he will make the face of heaven so fine That all the world will be in love with night..." Serena whispered looking at the moon in the sky. "I shall look at the stars and remember who I lost, who I loved and now it's not mine. As the stars once held the moon, once I held him right next to my heart. Yet, now I look to the world around me and these memories I treasured within my heart are forever gone...""Darling" Serena's mother said as she looked at her daughter looking out of the window... Alongside May, Dawn and Misty, she became very worried when it came to her daughter. Ever since that mysterious letter arrived, Serena started acting differently. She stopped eating, laughing, smiling, dancing around as she used to. "Maybe you should reply to Ash's letter."
"And say what, mother? I'm glad all this time you have been lying about your feelings. All our plans were just a big game for you. I'm happy that you chose her"
"Serena, what are you talking about? On Ash's last letter he said he wanted to meet you by the wall on sunset" Misty replied
"He wrote another one after that..."
"What?" Her mother and her friends asked at the same time.
"See for yourselves" Serena replied handing the letter to Misty who read it out loud.
"Dear Serena. I hope you're fine. There isn't a day in which I don't think about you. I will always care for you. I always told you that no matter what if my feelings changed you would always have a place in my heart. It has been some terrible days knowing you're far and things changed quite quickly... But I guess this time apart made me realize something. O teach me how I should forget to think! How can I forget you... Well, I have. My dear, my princess, I never thought my feelings could change as quickly as the night became day. But they have. I love Lillie. I'm sorry. I hope you have the happiness you deserve, that you meet the true love of your life. Forget me as I'm not worthy of you. Thus I hurt you. I hope your kind heart doesn't break because of the coward I am. Marry him. Find happiness. Bye Serena, forever." Misty finished reading the letter. Everyone in the room was holding their breath as they never heard such a heartbreaking letter...Serena showed no emotions now. She had read the letter too many times after it arrived. She wanted to acknowledge the fact she lost him, that he didn't love her the way he used to say
"Serena you have to reply," May said putting her hands in her friend's shoulders making her face him "Prove to him that he won't hurt you.. That you are stronger, that you are happy for him"
"Dear, May is right," Grace said caressing her daughter's face, whipping the tears away
"I loved him more than anyone in this world, but it wasn't enough. And he walked away like it was the easiest thing to do. And here I am. Crying and crying because I still believe we could have a future. You were right mother. Since the beginning, you told me I would end up hurt if I ever become so closer to him. Here it is, he destroyed me."
"No, Serena. I was the wrong one. This can be a misunderstanding. He loves you, I'm sure of it. All of the things I said in the past, don't matter. I wasn't saying the truth either what I thought, I just wanted to protect you. But, now, I'm telling you the truth. Write to him, tell him you are happy and if this is truly true, it will be easier to let him go..."Serena looked at her mother, still trying to understand her mother's words. Her friends nodded. Serena turned their back to them, grabbed a piece of paper and wrote all of her feelings down... It was hard to say she was happy about his new future, about him and Lillie, about their wedding...
Dear Ash,
After thinking and rethinking on what to write to you, I finally found the words... I couldn't be happier for you. I always told you if you found someone who you truly loved, I would happily let you go. Although I might seem strong in these words, I honestly am not... I can not lie to you and say I didn't think we were forever. But life was always too complicated for us together. We were never meant to become one, therefore we both moved on. At least you did. With Lillie.
I wish I was her. But I am absolutely happy for you and her. I can not believe after so long you are marrying for love, the way you always wished to. I will always be happy for you no matter how bad it hurts me. You can always count on me forever. However, I see this is goodbye, isn't it? You will have your life with her and I will find my fate. A fate that I can not change. A fate that I always believed it would be you. No matter what just remember I never lied about my feelings, I will always love you...
Bye
Serena
Serena grabbed the letter put it in an envelope. She found the robot who came with Ash's letter and send it. It was done. There was nothing else to do except finding a way to forget those happy memories when taking risks for Ash seemed worth it. When running back and forth with him trying to not be seen seemed fun. When he held her as time passed and as the stars shined brightly in the sky seemed like love.
"There is never a good time to say goodbye, Serena," Grace said holding her daughter "No matter how hard you try to forget them, a part of you will always remember their smell, their eyes, their words, everything about them. It will be a mark on your body, on you, on your mind and worst on your heart. No matter how hard you try to move on, the shadow of that person will hunt you and your heart. You loved him more than someone could ever love. You have the purest soul and heart. You love with passion. You gave him every part of you... I guess he didn't do the same" Serena let her tears flow in her mother's arms. Grace caressed her daughter's hair. "But hey, think of it this way you are just one broken heart closer to happily ever after"
