Ella sat on the bus, watching the passing cars on the highway. Emmett was sitting beside her, chattering away more than his usual. He liked talking to adults more than children, though Ella couldn't figure out why.

Talking to adults was the worst thing imaginable in the world. They constantly looked at you with that look of 'What on earth is that child's mom and dad thinking?' as if they think judging a child silently won't let them know about it.

That's something Ella always grimaced at, because she was constantly judged for her hobbies. She played on a very good softball league back in California. Her parents payed for it with money didn't have, because they wanted Ella to have a good chance at something. Ella liked playing softball, but after every one of her games, she would meet that one parent for the other team saying that she was so good she must be told that the only thing she can do is win.

To which she always responded with "No ma'am. I most certainly can lose if I feel like it." because she must be polite while speaking to these "authority" adults.

"Ella? Ella? Are you awake?" Emmett said, shaking her tremendously.

Ella looked away from the window, snapping out of her thoughts "I was busy, Emmett."

Emmett made an odd face and pointed out the window. Ella turned her head. She hadn't noticed that the bus had turned onto a private drive. Ella watched with curiosity as the Avenger's headquarters came into view.

Ella and Emmett jolted forward as the bus came to a stop. Bruce, Tony, and Happy stood up and got off the bus.

Emmett looked to Ella, shrugging his shoulders. After that, he stood up and walked down the aisle, Ella at his tail.

The twins stood in a long hall, off to the sides with their arms crossed in front of them. Upon waiting for someone to tell them what was going on, they watched many people pass them with odd looks.

As if they were scared of them.

They turned at the sound of a voice "Children. Come. There's a lot to talk about."

They followed Steve into a small rectangular office and sat down when gestured to the sofa behind them. Tony was already in the room. When the twins sat down, Tony leaned back in his seat.

"So, children. Do you know why you're here?" he asked them.

Emmett sat straight up "Yes. A weird dark force is trying to kill us in Maine, so we ran. What's that got to do with anything?"

Steve looked at them "Because it's only after you because of your father." at the looks of confusion on their faces "When you were three days old, the darkness attacked your home; searching for your father. He sent you away to protect you."

Ella looked at Steve "Right. Well, he's shitty job at protecting us."

Ella looked toward the window. Steve sighed "Look, the darkness is coming for you, whether you like it or not. So, we'd like you to get trained up to protect yourself."

Ella and Emmett looked at each other. Ella then looked to Steve and Tony "Who's our father?"

Steve looked to Tony and sighed. Tony nodded and turned back to the twins "Loki, son of Odin."

Ella slammed the door shut and walked down the corridor. Emmett followed her.

"Ella! Hey, Ella! Maybe he's not as bad as you think!"

Ella turned around at the end of the corridor and threw her hands in front of him. Emmett threw himself to the ground, making the ground quake. Ella walked toward him "It doesn't matter what you say, Emmett. I'm not saving his ass."

Emmett stood up "Well, good. They don't want us to. They  want us to train. That's not so bad."

"Why would I want to train? Let me die. He'll come around as much as he always did. Never."

Ella turned to walk away, but a huge <BOOM> sounded as she did so. Steve emerged from the room they'd been in previously.

"Children! Follow me! We're under attack!"

Ella ran after him "By what?! The darkness?!"

"No! The darkness would already know where you were! This is something of lesser stature!"

Emmett, panting "What?! Are you saying the darkness is sending henchman?!"

"Something like that, yeah! Quickly, we're almost there!" Steve said.

Ella looked at the back of his head "Almost where?!"

But her question was answered for her. They were running to a stone wall.

Emmett looked at them "We're gonna have to stop!"

"No! Keep running!"

Ella looked at the wall "We're gonna crash into that wall!"

"Just keep running!"

Ella and Emmett did as they were told. The wall was getting closer and closer. They were gonna crash. When they were incredibly close to the wall, they held up their arms to their heads, bracing themselves for impact.

But, they didn't feel anything. Slowly, they let down their arms. Steve was nowhere to be seen around them. He probably stopped before they hit the wall.

Looking around them, Ella and Emmett saw beautiful rolling hills and in the distance there was a town. Ella and Emmett looked at each other before moving forward.

Where were they? But, more importantly, why were they her?
