It was a few days after the whole birthday thing happened. I was in my room, practicing some fuinjutsu Menma showed me yesterday, when I got called into the living room by my mother. At first I thought she found out about another prank I pulled at the academy until I saw Danzo, a member of the elder council, sitting there with a scroll next to him. "Naruto," he smiled at me, "how nice it is to be seeing you again. I brought you a gift since I was out of the village at the time of you and your siblings' birthday. Just pour your chakra into the scroll and your gift will come right out." He told me as he handed me the scroll.I did as he said and out came a black katana I could use with the red one Sasuke gave me.

After I finished looking the blade over and gave it a testing swing I bowed to him,"Thank you very much Danzo, this must have been very expensive and hard for you to get." He looked at me with a wide smile on his face and said "Oh it's alright, no need to thank me." Since my mother had left the room a while ago I went to hug him.
Danzo is like a grandfather to me. For all my birthdays he would give me gifts and occasionally he trained me after seeing how my parents didn't. He has an organization called Root, which was like the Anbu my father had working for him. My father had tried to shut the organization down, but all Danzo did was keep Root inactive for a couple of months. I also came to be friends with a boy in Root named Sai, who had black hair and extremely pale skin. Whenever I could I would try to hang out with him and get him to show emotions. After his brother figure Shin died of an illness he went almost completely emotionless, so I always try to help him regain emotions again.
"I almost forgot my second present for you." Danzo told me
"What is it?" I questioned excitedly. "How would you like it if I trained you, along with your little group of friends from the academy, in anything you want?" I looked at him in shock, his words slowly being processed in my head. Once it finished processing, I attacked him in another hug while almost shouting "Yes! Thank you so much!" Danzo then said "You should get a move on or you'll be late for the academy." I paused for a second before rushing back to my room yelling out panickedly "I'm gonna be late, Sasuke's gonna be so mad at me." I quickly put my new katana away before I got my kunai pouch and sandals on and ran out the door.
Sasuke was supposed to walk with me to the academy today, and we were going to meet at the dango shop to get a snack before school. I was running there and saw Sasuke talking to a girl with blonde hair and green eyes who I'm pretty sure is Ino Yamanaka, Mito friend. I had this burning feeling in my stomach which I refuse to acknowledge as jealousy. As I got closer I could hear her trying to ask Sasuke out on a date. Sasuke looked around until he saw me. He walked over to me and turned back to Ino "Sorry, but no. Actually, scratch that because I'm not sorry. I currently like someone who isn't you, so shoo along. I need to get to the academy now, and you clearly need to from your lack of skills. Come on Naruto." he said.
As we started walking away, an angry Ino ran and grabbed him and yelled "Why are you even hanging out with those losers! Naruto got his clan heir status given to his siblings, and his parents don't care about him! Hinata is just a weak timid girl who gets upset at the slightest things, and don't get me started on that useless civilian girl Sakura!"
I was about to yell at her for what she said about my friends when Sasuke grabbed my hand which stopped my thought process for a second. While he held my hand he said calmly to Ino "I don't care" and walked away dragging a stunned me along.
Timeskip
I was sitting in my seat silently while thinking about what Sasuke said to Ino 'I currently like someone who isn't you'. I started having this hollow feeling in my stomach thinking about who he liked. 'It can't be me. He probably only thinks of me as a friend and nothing more.' I was so caught up in my thoughts I didn't hear Sasuke calling me. "...ruto. Naruto. NARUTO!" I quickly sat up and said "Huh?"
He sighed and said "It's lunch time, and I've been calling you for about a minute now. What is it that you have been thinking about so much?" I was slightly worried he'd know what I was thinking of, so I made an excuse "I've been thinking about how we're supposed to prove ourselves worthy of those summons. We only have, like two days left." Not the best excuse, but it was good enough for now.
When we walked outside to eat with Sakura and Hinata, Ino came up to us along with a small group of her friends. "Sasuke-kun, we need to speak with Naruto here for a while. We need to talk with him about certain events that have happened recently." Ino said. "How about, no." Sasuke said with no emotion. "But-" "Now if you don't mind, we are late for lunch with our friends. Goodbye now." He grabbed me again, just like this morning, and pulled me away from a now angry Ino.
When we got to our usual lunch place, the area by the tree swing, I was back in my thoughts again. Sasuke interrupted my thoughts to say, "Naruto, can you tell us what's got you stuck in your thoughts again? You usually never think."
"You duckbutt of a friend, I have the ability to think, ya' know. I told you already, I'm worried about proving ourselves to the summons." He gave me a look that said 'We'll talk later'. Hinata bought the excuse and said "We should ask them what we need to prove, and work from there. Oh, and do any of you know a place we can train together other than the park? I don't think we should use the public training grounds because anyone could walk in and see our summons." I laughed nervously and rubbed the back of my head, and the three of them turned to me. "As a late gift from Danzo, who is pretty much a grandfather to me, he said he would train us and gave me a katana."
Sasuke looked at me and said "Naruto, kindly explain why it took so long for you to tell us that. Had we known, we would've started planning our training already." "I kinda forgot about it?" I said nervously. Sakura hit me on the head and yelled "IDIOT". 'Man, who knew that girl was so strong' I thought to myself. Then, it hit me. Not Sakura again, but an idea. "Sakura, you should train in chakra control. You're already strong so you should train in that so you can have chakra enhanced strength."
"Why do I feel like he's trying to flatter me so I'll stop hitting him?"
