Neil stepped inside the home and found no one in the living room. Though he wasn't expecting anyone but everyday when he returns from the work, his namesake mother would be waiting for him to pissed him more by her presence.
He roamed his eyes everywhere and it halted on a particular person. His father who had been sitting on the chair at the dining table. Neil's brows furrowed finding him in their own house after don't know how long. Now finally he got time to come home and meet his son? Does he remember me even? Neil thought still been rooted on the spot. His father Sighed and walked up to him.
Neil's father: I know you have lots of questions to ask but first pet pooja phir kaam duja ( first eat something then work anything )
Neil looked down and quietly moved to the dining table. Both father son duo settled down on their seats and neil opened the lid of the containers. There were his favourite dishes. Especially rajma and butter chicken. His father looked at him in admiration. How much he has grown, his father thought. He was guilty of his actions that he wasn't there when he needed him the most.
Neil took a morsel and his eyes got blurred with unshed tears feeling the taste. He could never be failed to recognize the taste. His mother's special recipe it was. He understood that his father had made all of them. He continued having it without lifting his face, hiding his pain and savouring the taste after almost a decade. He started getting remember of their beautiful family, their memorable memories and good times with each other. Everything was going good then one day it turned upside down when they lost an important person of their life.
His father was glancing at him in between but chose to be quiet. After they were done servants took the containers back and neil was going to his room when his father called him.
Neil's father: neil let's have a drink
Neil: dad!
Neil's father: what? You drink alone always then let's have it together. Father son will enjoy today.
Neil smiled faintly and nodded looking down.
Neil: okay let me freshen up first, I will join you after.
Neil's father: okay come to our place
Saying this he went from there carrying a bottle of wine from the bar counter. Neil looked at him then went from there to his room and got freshen up. He came out wearing a simple t shirt and track pant and went to the place his father had told.
His father was making their drinks in balcony. Neil came there and stood beside him crossing his arms. His father handed him a drink.
Neil's father: cheers
Neil: cheers
They took a sip standing near the railings and boring their eyes gazing the nature. Cool breeze was swirling around making the climate chilly. His father looked at him.
Neil's father: aaj shweta aur meri wedding anniversary hai
Neil was about to take a sip but hearing him he halted but didn't look at him nor said anything.
Neil's father: 30 saal ho gaye par vo hamare saath nahi
Neil: toh ish khusi mein tha dinner, ye drink and all
Neil's father: neil I know you are upset with me. I realized my mistakes. Whenever you needed me I wasn't there beside you. I am feeling ashamed calling myself a father. I broke my promise of being together with you always. Please forgive me I am sorry. Honestly I was also broken after losing my soulmate. It was not easy for me either. I know a sorry can't fix anything but please if possible forgive this oldie so that if I ever meet your mom she would not be angry on me for leaving you alone where I should be with you.
Neil couldn't control the storm of tears and hugged his father tightly sobbing in his arms. After don't know how long they were like this, together in each other arms. His father knew he was the main reason of his pain and sorrow. Instead of helping him in bad times and to be with him, he left him alone and got married without thinking about his concern and happiness. No one can fulfill the place of parents. They played vital roles in everyone's life. In such a early age he lost his mother and father also.
( I don't know why I was crying while writing this 😶 )
His father patted his back and pulled away wiping his tears. Neil composed himself and both got settled down on the chair near railings. Neil was still looking disturbed so his father thought to divert his mind.
Neil's father: so what's going in your life. Any anarkali you met till now?
Neil laughed remembering something. His father used to call his mother as anarkali and she would always got angry whenever he called her with this name. Neil shook his head looking at him and gulped his drink playing with his glass. Don't know why his mind suddenly reminded him of her at that time. His forehead creased in confusion but didn't give it a much thought. His father somewhat understood the hidden tale behind his silence.
Neil's father: neil one person has betrayed you that doesn't mean everyone would be the same. Don't ever doubt or mistreat the person who has nothing to do with your past.
Neil: I know dad. I am not a fool to not understand what is right and wrong. Its just that right now everything seems too complicated.
Neil's father: it's ok. Just know I am always here with you. Don't feel hesitate to share anything okay?
Neil nodded blinking his eyes and both got busy spending their precious time. Neil really felt good to be with his father after so long. Only his mother was missing there. He looked up in the sky and his heart found the lost peace gazing at the stars that reminded him of his mother. He closed his eyes smiling softly and the last person he saw was her, who had been in his mind all the time, with whom he feels so good and right, with whom he felt a strong connection but unable to understand it's depth. Unknowingly he uttered her name forgetting everything and being lost.
Neil: avni
His father looked at him hearing him. Neil's eyes were closed and looked in deep slumber. I was right, his father thought.
Neil's father: I need to know who is avni. If neil has something for her, I will talk to her personally. I will try my best to make them reunite.
To be continued.
