On the other hand, Sam was enjoying her life to the fullest. Mack and her went for long drives across the city and further ahead. Last time, they were seen near the billiards club near a bar in the city. They had cops chasing them but now, Sam was getting used to it.
Sam sometimes wondered how Joe might've survived but then Mack's reminders brought her back to real life. They never attended school but nobody in school asked them about it, including Mr. Winsley.
Amy, on the other hand, became less communicative as she had lost her only best friend and also lost the only person who trusted her. She had no idea where he was and that made her less communicative. People came by and passed her but she acted completely ignorant.
Almost a year passed and it felt like Sam and Mack were now in a serious relationship. Mack seemed to be happy with her but, what about Sam? She was feeling uneven. Deep inside her, she felt intimidating, as if Mack was just trying to take her over. He was trying to control her from all sides. There was no private space left for Sam. Everything that came to Sam, went through Mack at first.
Earlier Sam thought it was just his overprotectiveness, but later this feeling rose up and she realized that he is controlling her.
She decided to end this right away.
A few days later, she called him and asked him to come over for a little talk as her mother wasn't there for the night. Mack rushed down the streets to Sam's apartment.
They sat for dinner. Sam found it difficult to say it but she tried and coughed to clear her throat.
"Sam?" Mack asked, "You wanna say something?"
"Huh? Yeah."
"What's it Sam? Say it out!"
"It feels hard enough for me to say it and break your heart but, Mack, I think we can't continue our relationship."
"Sam? Are you out of your mind?" Mack growled in anger.
"I know you're angry Mack, but listen to me."
"What more should I listen to Sam? That's the end? But tell me one thing, what strong reason do you have to leave me? I mean, I'm the strongest guy in school, I am a champion sportsman, a good driver and a very good boyfriend. Why does that bother you Sam?"
"Listen up Mack. You surely are a good guy in all sense but you are still not suitable for me. Staying with you feels intimidating as if you're trying to gain control over me. I don't feel free. I have to think about something 10 times before doing it just because you don't like it. This is surely not a free relation. It's full of rules Mack and trust me, nobody likes to follow rules."
"Oh yeah? That's what you wanna say? I am intimidating? I am stupid? But don't you realize? I love you."
"That's not love dear. You almost kill me by suffocation every time we kiss. You try to bite me and trouble my hair and you try to pretend like you're the alpha male here and I must listen to your commands and do as you say. But Mack, that's not fair. You're wrong."
"Okay then! If that's what you think about me, if all my love feels intimidating and troublesome to you, go to hell and I don't want you ever in my life." Sam grunts and growls as he throws away a plate and stands up against her.
"Mack, I think I'd have to ask you to leave."
"I'm not leaving. I'm not going anywhere. Sam, you've troubled me. And somebody's gotta pay for that." He replied as he grabbed Sam's hand by his left hand and her hair by his right.
"Mack, this is wrong. Please leave!" Sam pleaded as Mack tried to pull off her garments.
"Now you've made it easier to me Sam. I won't let you go now. Pay the price!"
Mack pushed her away on the couch and unzipped his jeans. Sam knew she was in great trouble. She called out for help but she knew nobody would come up. Mack held her body in a hand and grabbed her neck with the other. He tore up her top in pieces and laughed out loud like a monster.
"Mack, no! Please Mack! Leave me alone Mack!"
'BOOM'
Something hit Mack in the head and he falls down and faints. Sam wipes her tears to look up. To her surprise, the person who saved her was none other than Amanda! Sam stood up and hugged Amanda tightly and cried aloud.
"How did you get up here?" Sam asked.
"How did you end up here?" Amy replied.
"I called him to inform him that I wanted to break up with him. And that gave rise to the monster."
"Well, you're safe now. He won't trouble you. I think you must tell your mom about it. But first, let's get you some clothes to wear."
Sam and Amy laughed as they apologized to each other about their behavior for the last one year.
Amy then advised her not to worry about anything. Sam then went to bed peacefully.
