The Masked Prince

George's POV:

     I sit in the grass, watching as all the colorful lights and floats pass by. I watch in amazement as the floats get bigger and brighter. I would kill to be in one of those floats.

     I notice that the final floats are coming. I slowly stand up, making sure I don't miss any second of it. I dust some grass off my jeans, then I look up.
     The final three floats are passing by. I notice that these hold the royal family. One member per float.

     The first to pass was the king. He was smiling and waving at the crowd. I try to grab his attention but he doesn't notice me. Oh well. Second was the queen. I heard rumours about her, she's supposedly very mean and rude to her staff at the castle. Her eyes wander around the crowd before landing on me. I do a big friendly wave. She then has this nasty look on her face and goes back to waving to the others. I look down. Of course. My clothes have holes in them and some dirt is stuck on my jeans. Great. The queen thinks I'm filthy.

     The final float is in front of me, and I see who's seated on top. The prince. Well, the masked prince is what people call him. I watch as he waves at the crowd. For a split second, he looks directly at me in the crowd (or so I think, it's hard to tell with the mask). The white, porcelain-like mask with a little smiley face was looking at me. I stare back, but as quickly as he looked at me, he looked away.

     I shrug it off as he went back to waving at the crowd. I start walking back to my home, kicking a rock as I go. I think about life stuff, like I normally do. The queen is probably thinking about kicking me out of the kingdom, I think to myself. I wouldn't be surprised, I am pretty filthy. I stop for a second. I have this strange feeling that someone was staring at me. I turn around and see the last float passing the corner. I look to the top of the float to see what the prince was doing. He was turned fully around in his seat. Staring at me.
