Prepare for a long author's note at the end. Thanks for reading!

It's a battle between concepts. While Shiratorizawa's strategy was easy enough to understand, conquering it however, is a totally different thing.

Their concept, to trust their ace with all their heart, to ensure that the ace will always be ready for an attack. Ushijima was like their king, and the rest of the members were making sure to make way for him to attack. Call it a one-man team or something along the lines of that, but it didn't matter to them. Every team member was equally as strong, but their goal, was to serve their ace.

[y/n] realised how dumb he was in the beginning. Most people were blinded by the fact that Shiratorizawa is the reigning champion, over-looking a simple fact like...

Not everyone would be able to follow up with the concept Shiratorizawa holds. To serve the ace, to step behind the ace's shadow. When people think of Shiratorizawa, the first person to appear in their minds is the ace. No matter how good you are, in the end, it's about serving the ace.

[y/n] wouldn't had been able to do it.

Maybe it was fate that leaded him to Karasuno instead, after a series of events. Maybe he wasn't meant for Shiratorizawa...

His eyes focused on the ball Ushijima had just spiked over the three blockers, and positioned his hands to receive the lefty's spike. It didn't matter if it wasn't a perfect receive, as long as it was going up into the air for someone else to connect. Even though [y/n] was an all-rounder, there was one thing that he wasn't really in his forte, and that was receive. Because [y/n] was usually set to attack instead of receive in games during his middle school years. However, [y/n] was good at adapting.

Nekoma's ideology was perfect for this moment. With that in mind, [y/n] squat down, preparing to receive the ball with his whole body while hoping he had anticipated it right. The ball connected with his hands, the force throwing him backwards, but the ball went up straight, high into the sky.

It wasn't a perfect one, in fact, it was a pretty sloppy receive, but the 'successful' receive was enough to send Karasuno going after losing 3 points straight in a go.

"Azumane-san!" Kageyama shouted, running towards the ball. He positioned himself, before tossing the ball towards Asahi from a difficult angle that only someone as skilled as Kageyama could perform.

Asahi did his run up, before spiking the ball in-between Kawanishi and Goshiki with his full strength. It hit the ground inside Shiratorizawa's court, and the referee signalled a point for Karasuno.

1 - 3

"Nice kill, Asahi-san!"

"Uwah that was a good receive [l/n]!"

It was Asahi's turn to serve. Shiratorizawa received the ball, keeping it in the air. Shirabu tossed the ball up again for Ushijima. A split second decision led Tsukishima to jump up to block the right side of Ushijima. If it was a right-handed player, it would have worked. But because Ushijima was a left-handed player, he was blocking the wrong hand. The ball easily flew passed his hands, landing in Karasuno's court.

Daichi clapped his hands together a few times, garnering the attention of his teammates, "Adjust! Adjust!"

It was Ushijima's turn to serve. Karasuno braced themselves, as the ace did his run-up.

The ball headed towards Nishinoya-

For a few seconds, [y/n]'s vision blanked out.

"Oto-san..." A young boy cried into his palms, his tears staining the ends of his sleeves. His loud sobs filled the entire room, before he was quickly shut down with a kick to the stomach.
