The drive up the hill didn't felt as daunting as [y/n] thought it would have been. Even with the looming possibility of the team he had came to care for, hating him for what was about to happen, he felt surprisingly calm.

It might have been because [b/n] was in a better mood than he had ever been ever since his accident. The soft humming of his favourite tune and the light crinkles under his eyes whenever he glanced at [y/n] made the day felt like their old usual, if only...

All they needed was their mother here, in the front seat, laughing as she gossiped about her coworkers, then the image would be completed.

But now, they were headed of to their sperm donor until [b/n] turns 18. A couple of months with [f/n] didn't sound as bad, as long as he keeps to himself.

They arrived at Karasuno's front gate, earning the attention of a couple of students who were just entering school. It was clear they recognised [y/n] well, with what Karasuno's volleyball team had just achieved recently.

"Are you ready?" [b/n] turned to ask him as he killed the engine. "You don't have to see them if you don't want to."

"No," [y/n] replied almost immediately. He gripped his seat tightly, eyes narrowing in determination. "I'm not going to run away again."

The walk down the hallway did feel daunting, however. There was no [b/n] to distract him as he made his way to the court. The elder was busy dealing with his school transfer at the moment, preoccupied in the office.

He stopped in front of the doors, eyeing the metal handle hesitantly.

However, [y/n]'s dilemma was cut off when the door flew open, and an orange blur came hurtling into his arms.

"Hinata!" came a shout from inside the building, but it was a little too late as [y/n] was sent falling backwards alongside the elder.

[y/n] let out a little 'ompf' as his breath was knocked out of his chest. He raised his hand to pat Hinata on the bag as the elder cried.

"I will miss you, [l/n]!"

"How did you even know that yet?" [y/n]'s voice sounded faint, but the Karasuno members who had started filling out the building heard him as clear as day.

It was Hinata who answered.

"It was the Great King!"

[y/n] couldn't help but let out a huff as he slowly got up from the ground, Hinata bowing as an apology consistently despite his reassurance.

Oikawa really loved selling out his information. First, to Ushijima and now to Karasuno. But, it did make his job much easier, now that the others knew.

"I just wanted to say goodbye," [y/n] cleared his throat, glancing away awkwardly as the team gathered around him. "And... to apologise. This was the best few months of my life..."

"There's nothing to apologise about."

[y/n]'s eyes snapped to Daichi.

"I'm glad that we were able to play as a team this past few months."

[y/n] opened his mouth to argue back, eyebrows furrowing as he tried to understand Daichi's words. But Sugawara stopped him easily.

"If you're about to apologise for what happened last week, don't bother." He snapped. "We know what happened, everyone else would have done the same. Your family is more important than this sport."

Suga's face softened slightly as the team continued to gape at him.

"I don't want you to leave with the lasting memory of guiltiness linked to Karasuno... to this game."

[y/n] smiled and nodded, letting out a small laugh at the end. He didn't know what he was afraid of in the beginning. This was Karasuno, this was his present now, not whatever had happened in his past.

In his present, he had chose to face his reality rather than run off to his fantasy. And that was all that matters.

"I'm glad... I'm glad I got to play with you guys."

"And I'm glad too," Hinata said. His suddenly grinned, a little too sharp and taunting as if [y/n] was the opponent across the net... which in a way... was sort of what they were now.

"Next time we meet, it'd be across the net, faced off against each other."

[y/n] smirked in return. Hinata was to be expected as always. "I supposed it's bout time I get to witness the rising crows in action, huh."

Karasuno was the reason he started playing again, and [y/n] couldn't help but feel excited for what was to come.

On his way out of the school with [b/n], someone shouted his name.

[y/n] spun around to find himself nearly toppled over once again by a very familiar figure.

"Tobio," he whispered, startled frozen by the sudden hug from the usually emotionally-stunted boy.

"Shut up, you know how... you know this isn't..."

[y/n] smiled, returning the hug as his arms wrapped around Tobio. At the corner of his eyes, he saw [b/n] shuffling away to give them space.

They stayed that way for a moment, and received a couple confused gazes from the passerby. [y/n] didn't really care though, he knew how much this meant to the younger.

Kageyama wasn't one to hug somebody, but the fact that he was here now— hugging [y/n]— meant a lot more than the words he could say.

"The teacher needed to see you just now, huh?" [y/n] said as they pulled away from each other. "For your bad grades?"

Kageyama didn't laugh. He looked serious as he stared at [y/n].

"I will see you at Nationals."

He was confident that [y/n] would be playing with Inarizaki on the court. It was heartwarming to see such full confidence for him. Even [b/n] hadn't been able to guarantee a starting position for him in such a prestige school.

"This time, I'm going to defeat you. And I will proof you wrong."

It was Kageyama's turn to look startled.

"I'm not whatever the world made me be," [y/n] continued, keeping his eyes steady on Kageyama. "The Angel of Kitagawa Daichi, or the Fallen Angel, or whatever the world has named me."

He was going to be something better. Nicknames, reputation... none of those matter at the end of the day.

"I'm going to be [l/n] [y/n]."

He was going to be seen, not as anything but himself, his truest form on the court that will trample his opponents one by one.

Kageyama seemed to understand him all to well. He was another one who was shackled by the past titles attached to his name. A title all too deceiving with its honorary title yet belittling meaning.

"I will see you the court I supposed, [l/n] [y/n]."

[y/n] simply laughed, pure and genuine.

"Well, see you on the court Kageyama Tobio."
