"Who told you that crap?" Marshall asked regaining his voice before anyone else in the room.

"Jamison showed me the interview you did in Florida when I was a baby," the teen replied.

"Mave,"

"I just want to know why, dad. That's it."

Madelyn was so shocked she didn't even realize she had tears in her eyes threatening to fall.

"So what's the story?" Maverick pushed.

"Son, let's go talk in the other room about it," Marshall said.

The boy nodded. He was upset by the revelation that his father wanted his siblings but didn't want him. Marshall knew that interview would bite him in the ass as soon as he had let it all slip. Madelyn didn't follow the two of them as this was Marshall's doing. He had to rectify this situation. She couldn't smooth it over for him.

"Mave, when I met your mom, I was done having kids. I admit that I didn't want anymore. Whitney was already a teenager and I was just ready to be done raising kids. I was straight up with your mom about it," Marshall said.

He refused to lie to his kids about anything in his life. They knew about his prior drug use. They knew what he did for a living and Maverick had actually listened to some of his stuff.

"Mom was using birth control and got pregnant with you. She brought me the paperwork from the doctor and I freaked out. Yes I insisted that she abort and she was adamant that wasn't happening. She left me for over two months. She was going to do it alone and I realized after she walked out that door just how wrong I was. I was shocked that you were on the way but I am so glad that your mom fought me on aborting. I got her and you back when she was almost five months along. I am so glad that I did because the moment they placed you in my arms, I couldn't imagine life without you. I probably held you out of all of them the most. Mave, I regret ever telling your mom to abort. I really do. You have been my lil man since you were born," Marshall said.

"Why didn't you want her to have me though?" Maverick asked using the same no-nonsense tone that his father always used.

"Honestly, I didn't want the girls to think I was replacing them by starting a family with your mom."

Maverick stared at his dad. Marshall was internally terrified that this would change his relationship with his son for good. Maverick didn't say another word. He just got up and left the room. Marshall was crushed. He went to the kitchen where his wife stood. He passed Caleb back to Alaina and pulled Madelyn into his arms.

"I think he hates me now," he said.

"He doesn't hate you, Marshall. He will work thru it and realize how you have been there since birth. You didn't abandon him." she said.

"I know but that doesn't change how he is feeling right now. I mean will he be able to get past it?"

"I can go talk to him," Alaina offered.

Marshall shook his head, sadly. He had screwed up back then and now that his son was old enough to hear those interviews, he had to deal with the consequences. Madelyn's heart broke for her husband. Alaina sighed.

"Let's just give him some time to process it all." Marshall said.

"Daddy, I still love you," Mckynna piped up.

"I love you too, baby,"

Madelyn gently kissed his cheek. She finished preparing dinner so they could all eat. Maverick was silent all the way thru dinner and returned to his room as soon as he was done. She cleaned up the kitchen and went to check on him. He was laying on his bed, texting someone.

"Mave, baby," she said.

"What mom?" he asked.

"How are you holding up?"

"Not everyday you find out your dad didn't want you."

"Maverick, he made a mistake in the heat of the moment and he has regretted it every day since. He loves you so much. He tried to call me a few days after I left him and I ignored it. I wasn't innocent in the whole thing. I won't allow him to take all the blame for what happened back then. But he has been there every single day since I met him for lunch one day. He has done so much for you. He has always loved you."

"I just can't believe he was how he was in his music. Like that was really who he was with you?"

"No baby, his music is not how he was at home. You coming was a shock to us both. I was on birth control with you and with Malakai. You both were meant to be here. You are both incredible boys and turning into amazing men. I couldn't be more proud to call you mine. Dad has done so much to protect you all from the media and whatever drama may follow him from his past."

"Mom I remember the North Carolina trip without him. I remember you crying while we were there over something he did."

"Sweetheart, that was an adult situation between your father and I. We made it thru it and are stronger than ever. You are going to have your ups and downs with your little girlfriend's. But your dad is never going to not be there for you."

"I just hate that Jamison was right again."

"Is he still giving you a hard time?"

"Nothing I can't handle,"

"Maverick Blaze, if we need to switch you to the private high school while we switch Kai to the middle school, we will. We are checking it all out on Monday anyway."

"I am fine, mom. I don't want to leave my girl anyway. It's why Jamison won't back off. He wants her and she doesn't want him."

"I always knew that she was a smart girl."

Maverick's girlfriend, Analise, was a good girl. She was friends with the girl Maverick had a crush on in kindergarten. He had a good group of friends. She kissed her son's head and stood up.

"Don't be so hard on your dad. He beats himself up daily about the past already," she said.

"I just need some time, mom," the teen admitted.

Madelyn nodded in understanding. He went back to texting. She walked out of his room.
