Christmas came quickly. Madelyn had everything ready to go. Marshall was laying on their bed. Malakai had just walked out of their room after gushing about something for school. He absolutely loved the new school which made both of his parents happy.
"Mama, come to bed," Marshall said.
"I just have a few more gifts to wrap, babe," she said.
"You know Mave asked if he could have a few people over for New Year's eve right?"
"One of them is his girlfriend."
"I gotta have the talk with him again?"
"Probably."
Marshall nodded. His relationship with his oldest son had been a bit strained since the revelation of the interview from back in the day. He remembered the frustration of that trip and thought maybe they needed another family trip.
"What?" Madelyn asked.
"Was thinking a family vacation was needed," he said.
Madelyn nodded in agreement. She thought a family vacation was a perfect idea. He sighed. She gave him a funny look.
"What is it babe?" she asked.
"I just can't believe how quickly the kids have grown." he said.
"Kids grow, love."
"Yeah I know. I just know we only have three more years before Mave is off to college and he isn't my biggest fan lately."
"Marshall, he is fine. He is just being an obnoxious teen."
Marshall sighed. He never really went thru this with his girls. He hoped he never went thru it with the other kids either. He sighed.
"Mom," Maverick yelled as he entered the front door.
"Maverick Blaze, there is no reason to be yelling," Madelyn sighed.
Maverick glanced at his dad before speaking directly to his mother again.
"Can they come over?" he asked.
"What? Who? When?" Madelyn stared at her oldest child.
"Analise, Calleigh, Brock, Heather, Sarah, and Corey," he said.
"When?"
"Now."
"Maverick, we are getting ready for the family to come over for Christmas right now."
"You mean the family that didn't want me."
"Maverick Blaze Mathers, would you like to spend the holidays on complete lock down?"
"It's true."
"Obviously it isn't true because you're standing here, right?"
"Doesn't mean anything."
"You are not five years old anymore. I will not tolerate this behavior out of you any longer. Shit happened. Your father has been there for you since the moment you were born. I am done with the way you are treating him. We all make mistakes."
Maverick glared at her for a moment.
"Bring me your phone, tablet, and computer," she said, done with his nonsense.
"Mom," he began.
"Now Maverick. You will now spend the holidays completely with your family and until you learn to appreciate what we do for you, just remember that you brought it on yourself."
"Brought what?"
"Oh I think dad, your siblings and I will have a great time posting to your social media and interacting with your friends."
