Ahren the Heir (a selection fanfic)

The Entry

Chapter 1

As I filled out the form my hand shook. Unlike almost every other girl in Illéa I was nervous about entering the selection. What if the prince was a total snob. What if I hated him. What if he hated me? Then I remembered the chances of me actually getting chosen are very low. I put my worries aside and went back to the form.

There done. I went to my room to get ready and realized I had no idea what to wear. I looked through my clothes and decided on a pink top that was tattered at the ends and denim shorts that were a bit ripped. I put on a tiny amount of concealer, a tad bit of mascara, and a thin layer of pink lip gloss. Being a dancer I had a small amount of makeup for performances. I brushed my hair and threw on a pair of worn sneakers. Just before I got out of the door my sister Kylie 'appeared'. "What are you doing?" she asked. Kylie was only 14 and had an obsession with the selection. "Going to enter my form," I told her. "Well obviously I'm coming," she said. I rolled my eyes in mock annoyance. "Then let's get going."

I thought I was going to suffocate. The room was packed with girls ages 16 to 20. Some wearing tons of makeup, some not wearing any. Some with $100 dresses, some still in muddy work clothes. You could definitely tell the caste difference. The selection hadn't even started and I could already feel the competition.

After waiting 25 minutes in line it was my turn to have my picture taken. When the photographer said "smile" and I gave the best grin I had.
