A very particular definition of the word "life" states that it is the period between the birth and the death of a living thing, especially a human being
What we choose to do between those two events is up to us
We could use every moment to the best of our ability or squander it all away- either way time will pass us byHowever, some do not have that luxury, the ability to choose
These lives are ruled by one thing: fear
This fear holds its victims captive, terrorizing them during every waking moment
You're subjected to being a battering ram, a shield, a scapegoat, a martyr
It gives you tiny slivers of hope only to snatch it away again- that is the only constant you can be assured ofThe aftermath?
You're left uneasy, forever overthinking situations
You develop a habit of analyzing the behavioral characteristics of everyone around you, noticing the slightest changes in tone of voice and demeanor
It was drilled into you never to show weakness, and emotion was weakness
So you built a fortress around your heart, sealing it away as best you could
You stopped letting people in, no more crying, just merely existing
Now and again you'd find some small semblances of happiness, but you knew soon those too would be taken from youSome manage to fight back
It takes great strength and will of mind, more than often it cannot be accomplished alone
You come across people that manage to take down your walls brick by brick and help you piece yourself together
There is no sure way to do it, to escape
But in order to one day reclaim control, you must be patient
And above all, never lose sight of your dreams and the person you hope to be one day, for that can never be taken from you
