"Cooooraliiiine, hello my little baby assassin friend we're ordering chinese and I need to know what you're gett- the fuck? Are you crying?" I suddenly exclaimed, peering round the door as a cold shiver passed through me at the sight of Charlie's bleary red rimmed eyes and sticky tear streaked cheekbones.

The flash in her eyes blinded when she caught my gaze and swiftly, swifter than i'd expected, she turned and her blinds were drawn once again as she settled her face with a cold expression i'd only ever seen before in the woman that owned my reflection. It was fast, the speed she took to compose herself that would cause any other to second guess whether they'd actually caught the tears in her eyes or whether it had been only a figment of their imagination. She was fast, almost as fast as I'd become. And that thought alone was haunting.

"I'm not crying I- no, I'm just a little sweaty in the eyeball area today Jesus, get off my back." She snapped, turning to drag flushed fingertips against the sticky trails of saline that had tracked over her flesh. A frown, deeper than i'd have liked it to be had sewn into my expression and I bit my cheek, moving further into the room with a clawing silence.

"Charlie tell me now, okay kid? What the hell have I done?" I uttered quietly, my voice stern and somber as much as it was guilty as I tracked my footsteps over to where she sat at the foot of the bed. The final snap of my low words had her head whipping back to watch me, a searing glare studded into her glossy eyes as she frowned at the stare I forced through her, demanding an answer for what I'd put her through that caused such a reaction.

A few moments of simmering silence fell onto our shoulders as her brimming eyes flitted between the both of mine and her lip trembled before she settled with a look of confusion that knocked me off guard.

"A, wait what, why would it be you?" She queried, her voice cracking as I froze and my eyes narrowed a little.

"w-what? Why wouldn't it be?"

She almost cracked a smile then, her eyes glinting as she sniffed and shuffled positions, sitting cross legged on her sheets as she gave me a patronising stare that had me reeling.

"It's not- it's nothing, you haven't done anything."

"Was it Jack cause I swear to god hun I've dealt with having killed my brother before so I doubt it'll hurt any less doing it again."

"No, Ace plea-"

"Wait what? Was it- did Loki say something?" I frowned even deeper than I thought was even possible at this point, but she just fixed me with a look, silencing me with an indignant stare. She slapped her hand to her forehead and let out the tiniest of groans as I folded my arms and narrowed my eyes, a little irked at her audacity.

"Charlie I swear to fuck if you don't tel-"

"My boyfriend broke up with me." She cut me off, finally snapping as her eyes flew to mine and she sniffed again, her irritated expression melting a little into something more somber again when she noted the shock on my face that i hadn't ever bothered to hide in front of her.

At this point my frown had etched so many lines into my forehead I must've resembled a crinkle cut chip. I opened my mouth and shut it again a couple times, watching Charlie as she blew her nose on a tissue and I tried to come to terms with what she'd just said. It was strange, I don't think anything had genuinely surprised me in a long time, and yet here I was legitimately speechless. Maybe I could keep this kid around forever simply for the excitement of being kept on my toes

"A what now?"

"Boyfriend Ace, like a relationship? It's what people who don't have commitment issues like to get into." She cut back dryly, wiping her eyes again as I shot her a look.
