Today, I awoke with a swing
In my steps of my mind
As the music of sunshine
Danced between the curtains.
Solitary strains flew past me
With bright, leaping tones
Of saxes and trumpets and bones,
Backed by a rhythmic groove
So tight it wound the spring
In my feet to drive me up
And out of the back door.
The big band played just outside,
Whispering over the horizon
In those wee small hours
And I could clearly hear
The shout chorus approaching
Anticipation exploded through my fingertips!
I walked the bass down
The sunny side of the street
To where I could feel the music best,
And I waltzed to the front door,
And what did I see
But all of you, my funny valentine!
And when I left, when I could not hear
The jazz of your love any longer,
I floated in a sentimental mood
And I realized all the things you are.
The music of my life,
the rhythm of my heart,
The soul and swing of being alive.
I promise to return to love you again,
To relive those days of wine and roses.
