The evening sun peaked through the openings of the white curtains that draped to the ground. Air particles held the sound of musical notes that swayed in the drafts of the small living room.

"See you got it!" Riley Walsh praised the boy who sat to the right of her, he pressed the keys of the piano that gives out a gentle melody.

The boy stopped to look at her, "It's kind of hard to remember, Aunt Riley," Carl confessed, his hands hovered over the white polished keys.

Tonight, she is on babysitting duty. Most people would do anything to avoid the job, Riley? She nearly begged. She and Carl were not blood relatives, though considered each other family due to how close she is to his parents. Adoring the boy as if he were her own and could proudly say Carl felt the same. And he did. She understood him better than anyone, including his parents.

"You keep it up you're gonna be better than me," she laughed, then nudged the boy's shoulder, "You're gonna be the next Beethoven."

He furrowed his bushy eyebrows, "Who's that?" Carl asked confusedly.

Riley frowned, "See now that right there, that makes me feel old," she points to him with her index finger with the nail being chipped of cherry red nail polish.

Carl laughed before dropping his head to look at the keys, "Maybe when dad gets better I can play for him," his voice goes soft, keeping his eyes on the piano.

He tried hiding the tears that began to form in the corner of his eyes. It pained and tore Carl apart to see his dad hurt, he wanted to do anything that could fix him. Carl wanted to save his dad like his favorite superheroes.

It is broken Riley's heart to see the boy, who has always been nothing but smiles and joy have despair on his shoulders. If she could take the pain away and have it as her own, she would do it in a heartbeat. Sadly, that's not how life works.

"Hey, look at me," she placed her delicate hands on the sides of his face, "Your dad is going to be fine. Don't give up on Rick Grimes just yet," she caressed the boy's cheek to wipe any remaining tears away.

Rick was Riley's best friend, and Carl's father. The man went into the hospital after getting shot on duty as he was a sheriff in King's County. He had received a particular call that would result in him winding up in a coma. The Grimes family and Riley were trying their best in keeping hopes up and wishing he will make a speedy recovery.

Riley used to go to the hospital to check in on Rick and stayed as many days as possible, but she knew it was not good for Carl to see his father in such circumstances. She offered to watch over the boy whenever the mother wanted to stay with her husband.
