It rang out throughout the world
From the land of the free.
The flames burnt through the stars shimmering in outer space
The gunshot burst through the galaxies
Collided with Liberty
And the world heard her scream out in pain
Heard her scream from the land of the free. The bullet burst through the fireworks
So the sky became polluted, ashen and grey.
Magenta sparks rained down, darkening the pearly, pure clouds
Soaked Liberty and extinguished her torch
And the world saw the cyan flood of her tears
Saw her tears fall from the land of the free.Bolts of lightning sent shockwaves across oceans
Static stormed the sky in every country
Creating avalanches in each city in each state.
Thunder struck the outstretched beacon
As Liberty's gown was torn into strips for all the shrouds
And the world felt her absolute agony
Felt her agony from the land of the free. The trees were uprooted like the hope the children
Once upon a time had
The hill on the horizon was abandoned, and like all their ambition
Became ignored by the world.
Liberty couldn't breathe as their voices were suffocated
But they didn't listen
Inhaling what was stolen from her
Signing the papers of prejudice.
And the world collectively mourned Liberty's death
Mourned the death of the land of the free.Saints of supremacy were placed on Liberty's grave
Gods of greed stood strong at her wake
As they all kneeled down to their idols of ignorance.
The children watched on in disappointment
Rolling their eyes, the sky was striped with darkness
And world recognised it's loss
Recognised how it had lost the land of the free. The children saw the road they had been walking
Realised they had to create change if they didn't want to fall down the cliff
If they didn't want to follow those who had fallen before them.
They overwhelmed the streets holding candles in her memory
Tore down the pedestals of prejudice
Daring to fight for the future, because the past was already destroyed -
Littered at the bottom of the cliff.
The world understood that something had to be altered
If they wanted the land of the free. The papers blew through the wind
Defining tomorrow and plummeting into yesterday
The white sheets documented what hadn't changed
And Liberty's blood highlighted in a deep red
All that deserved to change.
The photos dated 13/5 tinged with bright blue tears
Showed why it needed to change.
Yet, the narrow minds and closed eyes
Failed to see this.
And finally the world knew the amendments that there needed to be
In order to reinstate the land of the free.A fraying, limp flag was haphazardly strung over the sign that once read
'Welcome to the land of the free'
Stripes hung from the bare branches
Each leaf scattered on the ground, like the bodies dismembered and disregarded throughout history
The faded stars lay there, battered and bloodstained
Wounded and shattered by the shots.
Liberty lay in the abyss of darkness that her light had once filled
And shouted out into the emptiness
'May this truly become the Land of the Free'.LD x ~ 26/7/20

Poetry'... are my words enough?' Many themes and issues run through this collection, interwoven with each other, knitted between poems, so much so this is less of a collections of poems more of a continuous narrative. When I write, I'm constantly inspired...
