You luxuriate in your pool, surrounded by sparkling water
As they watch the dirt-filled droplets fall into the bucket.
You sit back as the cheques roll in, calculating the profit
Not caring that they're desperately counting the coins, hoping they'll find enough change.
You pride yourself on the petty charity you give, just enough to ease your guilt
Just enough to ease the guilt that deep down you know
They're helplessly staring into the empty fridge.
And it's been a tiring day climbing over others just to get where you want
It's been an exhausting lifetime being exploited for your wealth.Bundles of bank notes bound together
Bent like the broken backs of those you use
As little more than stepping stones to greater wealth
Bolster your boosted bravado, support your swollen ego.
Status stands high, you've conquered the mountain of materialism
Business is booming, but only you've profited
And it's inevitable that you'll waste forever chasing a dream that can never be achieved
Because there's always someone who's got more glitzy diamonds or flashy watches or designer cars than you.
But at what cost? You've traded your conscience for mansions with huge glass screens and vast jacuzzis
You're gazing out at your wealth, yet your world view remains paper thin -
Maybe because money was the only thing you placed any value in.
It's sad that superficial sights are all that you can see
Pathetic that numbers matter more than honesty
So you barely notice the crumpled bodies you've crushed
In your pursuit for more of anything but justice.Time ticks as you fly across the world in your jet
Smiling, arms covered in gold
Laughing, labelling those in the mud below you
Oblivious that their poverty is exactly what you've gained through.
You should feel some sense of sympathy, but emotion isn't what business school teaches
Morality isn't something that years of corruption creates in you.
Swirling in the clouds, you find yourself so detached from the people
That are somehow so connected to you.
Your mind builds a wall of wealth between them and you
Because you've never cared for anyone you can't get richer through.
A sturdy chain covers your heart because you'd rather separate your comfortable lifestyle
From what you've done and who you might have hurt to get this far.But the high wears off eventually
There's only so much money buys
Especially when you've made millions
Through manipulation and lies.
Next time you're haunted by those you left scarred and penniless
Next time you wake sweating and anxious
Next time you remember everything you've done and realise it's not some twisted nightmare
And pay penance with a donation, only a fraction of what you should give
Remember you're walking the steps of your employees
Who will be lining up here tomorrow morning in the freezing cold.
But you'll be sound asleep, as if nothing's wrong.Tomorrow when you wake up it'll be
Just another tiring day climbing over others to get what you want
And when they get into work it'll be
Just another moment in the exhausting lifetime being exploited for your wealth.
Being exploited just because you're Greedy.LD x ~ 30/7/20

Poesia'... are my words enough?' Many themes and issues run through this collection, interwoven with each other, knitted between poems, so much so this is less of a collections of poems more of a continuous narrative. When I write, I'm constantly inspired...
