chapter six

Hayden:

*earlier in the week*

"Sky I have no fucking idea what to do." I complain as I sit down on my sofa. I called Skyler to come over as soon as I asked out Ellie, hoping she could help me.

"You actually asked her out? Never thought I'd see the day when fuck boy Hayden became smitten for a girl" she teases. I'm also shocked to be honest. Everyone on campus knows me as the party animal, football star, and notorious fuck boy. Being with a different girl multiple times a week isn't something I am very proud of, but its easy. Settling with one girl, worrying about her feelings. making time for her, has always seemed like such a huge hassle to me. I also felt like I could never be a good enough to be a good boyfriend, but for some odd reason, I want to try for this girl. This girl I barley know, I want to try with. Am I out of my fucking mind of what?

"Skyler where do I take her? I've never taken a girl on a date. Should I just cancel?" I ask.

"No!" she basically screams at me. " This girl, who has barley given you the time of day, agreed to go on a date with your tall, lanky ass for some reason that I still cannot figure out. Not to mention, she's never been on a date, so you're not going to cancel on her ruin something special like this. Also, she is beyond beautiful, which is a huge upgrade from the normal group of girls you tend to spend your time with, so you're going to man up and give Ellie the best possible date you can put together, and I won't settle for anything less than perfect for her." she orders me and I am surprised a bit. Its definitely not the first time Skyler has lectured me and to my dismay, I am sure it won't be the last.

"Well thanks Sky. None of the previous girls I have spent my time with have seemed to mind my tall, lanky ass." I chuckle.

"Well it may have something to do with the girls you hang around are desperate, except for me of course, who can see past your mediocre charm" she smiles as she delivers the insult. One thing I can always count on with Skyler, is pure honesty. She's the type of person to tell you your breathe stinks even if she thought it would hurt your feelings. Which has happened a few times.

"Seriously Sky, what do I do?" I ask her. Skyler is my only friend I feel comfortable confiding in with this type of situation. Oliver would just laugh at me and call me whipped, even though I know for a fact he is a softy for Skyler, but somehow she hasn't figured it out yet and he won't tell her, too afraid of getting shot down.

I'll admit, Skyler is gorgeous. Her hair is short, just above her shoulders and is jet black. Her normal outfits consist of darker pieces, and always a leather jacket and black boots with a small pump. Her and I have never had any romantic relations. As soon as we met, we were instant friends. Yeah, Oliver and I are close, but nothing like Sky and I. Skyler is the only person besides my mum who can talk some sense into me. My mum actually loves Skyler, who she met when she visited me one weekend at my apartment. She yelled at me when she saw Sky in my apartment, thinking I had a girlfriend I hadn't told her about, but was happy to know I had someone looking out for me here. My home is only about a forty five minute drive from campus so I am able to visit home, or they can visit me. often I am very close to my family, but especially my mum. I am one hundred percent a mamas boy, and I am proud of it. I was lucky enough to have a loving home as a child, with two loving parents who could provide for me very well, and I am aware not everyone was as lucky as I was.

Skyler is a good example of someone who was dealt some shitty cards in the lovely game of life. Her parents were coke addicts who were nothing but trouble in her life. Luckily her grandmother was able to care for her and give her a great childhood. Skyler adores her grandmother, but sadly she was recently diagnosed with cancer, for the second time and it is much worse. Skyler tries not to show it, trying to keep her tough image, but I know she is going through it terribly. She still lives with her grandmother and takes care of her along with the live in nurse they had to hire. I go over to her house to see her grandmother sometimes. She's such a sweet lady and treats me like I am one of her own grandchildren.
