chapter 1- impressions

Starling Black woke up to the sun peeking in from her window, stretching out her arms, she noticed a letter on her bedside table. It housed the familiar red stamp she had grown accustomed to over the years. She knew what that meant, Chrollo had a job for her.

It has been 3 years since she joined the Phantom Troupe, and a fearsome gang of the strongest criminals in the world. Chrollo, the boss and creator of the troupe, approached her when she was just 16.

At that age she had already mastered the art of throwing daggers, became certified a hunter, and had been hired on as an assassin for the mafia.

Chrollo found her as she was completing one of her many jobs and asked her to join, a former member had died, so they had an opening and she gladly accepted.

She opened the letter and found that they were to meet in York New City so she packed her bags and left the following afternoon.

Over on the peak of Kukuroo Mountain laid the mansion of the infamous Zoldyck family. The Zoldyck's are the most powerful family of assassins in the world, and deeply feared.

Inside said mansion laid Elliot Zoldyck. When he was just five, his parents left him at the gates of the mansion and he stumbled over and managed to open the testing doors, which are incredibly heavy doors used to ensure only those who are worthy could enter their estate.

The Zoldyck's saw great potential in young Elliot and took him in to be raised and molded into an elite assassin.

Sixteen years later a twenty one year old Elliot woke up and immediately began his normal routine. He woke up, got ready, went down to their home gym, lifted weights of incredible magnitude, Illumi, his adopted brother who was also 21, offered to spar with him which he accepted.

Hours later both boys were tired, sweaty and breathing quite hard. They both went up to their own showers and afterwards Elliot was approached by Silva, his adopted father, who had a mission for him. He was to go to York New City.

In the outskirts of York New City was an abandoned complex, located underneath this was the Phantom Troupes current hideout. Everyone had arrived.

Chrollo stood up and explained the plan,

"In two days the York New Elites will be hosting a week long ball starting on Saturday and ending on the following.
At this ball will be the richest Individuals to ever live. We have four main goals to accomplish, we must first retrieve the Cornell family heirloom, a necklace embedded with the largest gems from each continent."

He shows the troupe a picture of the necklace and Starlings jaw drops, it has five jewels each the size of her eye wrapped delicately with diamond encased gold. The middle jewel was a gorgeous shade of blue in the shape of a diamond. This is the Cornell Sapphire worth more than half of the families attending this ball.

"Next will be the crowns of the Monty Clan, these will be on display in the back room. These were stolen from us at the beginning of our formation. We must show that no one will get away with this so along with taking the crowns back, we will kill the family who took them, the Keem Family"

"Those are our first three goals, our last one is to capture the Prince of The Kakin Empire. Prince Zeon will be attending and we need to capture him, unharmed, so we can use him as a bargaining chip with the Empire."

Chrollo goes on to explain who will be taking care of what and the details of the plan. Starling is tasked with capturing the Prince. This is a daunting task but she knows she can handle it, as long as nothing gets in her way.

She leaves the hideout and makes her way to the hotel he booked for herself, starting to plan her attack along the way.

Elliot is on the airship to York New City as he looks over his target, Prince Zeon of the Kakin Empire.

The task seems easy enough, get the prince isolated, slip him a tranquilizer, and take him back with no one noticing. The guards will be easy to take care of, but with this many people attending, he is hoping nothing else gets in his way.

The airship lands and he makes his way to the Crimson Hotel located a few blocks away from the site of the gala. His thoughts are completely on the task at hand so he didn't notice the girl in front of him until he collided with her.

"Oh!" Said Starling as a man walked right into her chest. She looked up at him and was pleasantly surprised with what she saw.

He had strong features with a sharp jawline to compliment his dark eyes, they were greenish blue in color but were cold and serious. His hair was brown, with large curls but wasn't unruly in any way. His eyes and hair went well with his slightly tanned skin. She brought her eyes down to his strong arms, she could see the defined muscles through his t-shirt. She tore her eyes away as he spoke.

"Are you okay?" Elliot asked the girl.

He studied her closely, she had bright eyes that caught his attention first and dark wavy hair that went down to her mid back. His eyes tracked her face as he scanned over her full lips, dark eyelashes, pale skin, high cheek but he moved his attention elsewhere as she tucked her hair behind her ear and he caught a glimpse of a black line creeping up from the back of her neck.

This detail was something ordinary people would have missed but with Elliot's extensive training and knowledge he knew immediately that that line was part of a large tattoo. A spider tattoo. This innocent looking girl was a dangerous criminal and a part of the Phantom Troupe.

All Phantom Troupe members have a spider tattoo with their number in the center of the spider 2-13. The leader or the 'head' of the spider is the leader, Chrollo. The rest are equal legs.

He was right in his assumption that she had a spider tattoo on the base of her neck, Starling's number is 8.

"Oh yes I'm fine." the girl giggles and gives him a small smile.

"Okay good, good bye now." The boy says, his voice lacks any emotion which raises her suspicions.

He walks past her and she looks back at him as he goes. Something about him rubbed Starling the wrong way, her gut was telling her something but she couldn't put her finger on it.

Only time will tell, and that it will.
