As the Great War rages on a group of German soldiers are about to undergo the shock of their lives. Great machines never before seen on the battlefield roll towards them and the soldiers realize they must escape, or they will die. Witness the brutal story of the first-time tanks were used in war from the perspective of those who stared down the barrel of the gun.

To mark the 100 year anniversary of the tragic Battle of the Somme, I decided to write a historical fiction based on the events of the Battle. Although the story features real people, and many real actions, this is by no means a historical account of the Battle. I advise you do some research if you want to find out more. -Some readers may find the writing disturbing.

A tribute to those who fought in the First World War, specifically the Battle of the Somme. This story was written at the time of the centenary of the first day of the Somme in July 2016, and tells the story of a young girl, showing her perspectives and the events that changed her life forever.

The outbreak of the Great War spreads throughout the streets of London. It's not long until it reaches newly married, middle class couple Eliza Rosefeld and Scott Rosefeld. Completely infactuated by each other; the separation is tragic. Just like the other men Scott is forced by the British government to step up and take his place in the army. Distance was a friend of Eliza but only one thing keeps both Eliza and Scott sane. Letters at war.

‘Countless soldiers sat at their posts, shooting across no man’s land, their fingers pulling the triggers and feeding the guns ammunition like a well-oiled machine, created for one purpose; war.’ When Johann is shot down in a dogfight over England, he thinks that things can not get any worse. But then he is sent to the front line at the Somme to be a stretcher bearer for the British army. It is there that he discovers the true nightmare of World War One, and how the greatest courage was shown in the bloodiest battle Britain has ever seen.

Basically this is a poem I wrote about General Douglas Haig from WW1. I wrote it in about 10 minutes in Class so it's pretty bad. Louis x
