Locked in chains

It all started when my brother and I lost our parents, it was sudden, and the news devastated us. We were young and lost, trying to find something to hold onto. Our lives had just changed drastically, and we were in for even more surprises. My older brother, Lucas, was sixteen at the time, and I Leila, fourteen. Our parents left us without a warning... And that's when we learned that our father was second-in-command to lead the Reds, a powerful gang in California.
When the boss heard about our parents' deaths, he sent his son and two other guys to protect us from their enemies, just in case.
That's when everything changed...

After everything we've been through, I'm grateful to have met them, they're like my guardian angels... Or maybe my dark angels? Anyway, right now they're living with us, and my brother and I work with them for the gang. I never thought this would be the life I'd be living, but life loves to surprise us when we least expect it.

I'm now 20 years old, it's been 6 years since I've known them and I wouldn't change a thing about my relationship with each one of them. We've been living in California for 2 years, and my best friend Emma, who's been there for me through it all, followed us to continue her studies. Her parents didn't care, they'd never been present for her and didn't support her in any of her decisions. So, she found an apartment close to us, and she couldn't be happier to get away and have her freedom.

Marcus, the big boss, is expecting changes from the gang, and from me this year... Things are going to shift, and not for the better. Foolish of me to think I would stay safe this whole time.
