Most days I think this country has progressed so much in terms of what they think women can and can't do, and then I have an interaction like the one I had today...

I was peacefully sitting in the hospital canteen this morning drinking my coffee, trying to get my caffeine hit before I have to go to the wards, when this old lady comes up to me. She must be in her 70s.

Keep in mind, I'm wearing a black tshirt and camo green cargo pants, and a white coat. Plus an ID card that clearly states that I'm a medical student.

She takes one look at me and asks 'Sister, how do I get to the 3rd floor?'

          (By sister she meant nurse)

I mean no disrespect to nurses, it's an extremely important job.

But how are we still living in a society where she sees a young woman in the hospital and assumes she's a nurse and can't be a doctor?
I'm 100% sure if I'd been a boy wearing the same clothes she would have called me doctor saheb.

(The nurses - both male and female, and nursing students wear a uniform in our hospital, it's very distinctive and that lady must have seen atleast 5-10 of them on her way)

@shewillhuntyoudown Calm… There will be many such people
Just ensure to be happy in front of them

@budstarc I hope it was a misunderstanding on her part, because I controlled myself this time but usually my face shows everything going in my brain and next time it's going to very clearly show my disgust

@shewillhuntyoudown It could have been her age or maybe urs?
I am sure that considering that she was in a hospital she knew that there are female docs
And if otherwise, just it is more power to you
You became something that she may still think is impossible

And of courses, nurses are equally important too. And till date people still feel that they are quintessentially females

@shewillhuntyoudown Surya is a good person
            Fact
            And Rohit has trophies
            So that is not it

            But Hardik and Jassi

            Yesh

@budstarc For me it's all 4 of them. Hardik embodies the spirit of Mumbai, doing everything, the never give up attitude.
Jassi because he's my sweetheart and truly imo the best baller india has ever seen.
I've truly become more of a Surya fan recently because that man has truly audacious shots, beautiful to watch. And also I saw that breakfast with champions interview of his, and he literally described my literal favourite foods word by word.
And what do I say about Rohit... My favourite, majhya Mumbaicha raja

@rahulxict Unfortunately I'm in final year and medicine is going to kill me. I have no creative brain cells left, so I just read other people's stories till I can graduate.
Seriously, y'all are carrying me through having to go to the hospital everyday

The beauty of cricket in our country I think, is the child it brings out in all of us.

Yesterday, I had plans to sit at home and watch the match by myself. My dad might have joined in between, but otherwise it would have been just me.

At 6 o' clock on the dot, right after the first innings, my friend calls me and tells me to get ready in 10 mins we're going somewhere. I was sceptical because she's not a big cricket fan and I tried to tell her that there's a match going on and I want to watch but she just said 'I know, that's why I called after the last over, just come down we're going somewhere.'

15 minutes later I'm sitting on the back of her scooty and she's taking me to a screening, where 6 of our other friends are waiting. Half of them don't follow cricket at all, but they'd heard me talking about it so much they got interested.

We watched the entirety of the second innings in a restaurant screaming, crying, cheering. I'd forgotten to eat, so they would pile food on my plate and remind me to take a bite.

They held my hand when I would get tensed, asked me questions about what was happening when they didn't understand what was going on, and joined me when I started praying somewhere around the 42nd over. They danced on the street with me when we won.

This. This is the beauty of cricket. The joy, the sadness, the camaraderie, this is what cricket means to India.

And I will forever be grateful to the Indian cricket team for giving me this.
