The room is warm, so warm that you feel like it's synthetic heat. Your eyes remained closed but you feel the touch of soft blankets on you, and they feel like giant, soft, and warm clouds. If given the choice, you'd stay here forever. But then your eyes flutter open and all you see is a wood paneled ceiling. Turning to the side with a protest and groan of pain from your legs, your eyes lock with a certain redhead. Max Mayfield. "Hey." She says with a smile. You don't understand how she could look so calm and composed after everything that just happened, but you just nod in return. "I'm sorry, Max." You say, looking back up at the ceiling, refusing to meet her eyes in shame. "I'm sorry for lying to you, for pretending to be someone I wasn't." You say, a sob inching in your throat. "I think it's bad ass." She says quietly. "You're like, a superhero, with a cool ass redemption arc." Your brows furrow. "Max- I- I could have killed all of you..I'm not a hero, i'm a monster." She shakes her hand and stands up, passing you a cup of coffee. "You didn't though, and I honestly have always known you wouldn't." She says, and you almost smile. How can someone have such hope? "You're my best friend, Max. I genuinely love hanging out with you, part of my mission or not. I just hope you forgive me." Her arms wrap around you in a hug. "Don't worry y/n, you're forgiven." Her arms pull away. "I think Mike's the one you have to worry about forgiveness about." She moves away as your heart drops. How were you going to explain this to. everyone else, Max and Will were able to understand everything because they had time to accept it, and more importantly you were closer to them to anyone else. Max opens the door and calls out something, and before you know it you see a room adjacent to you, where Will, Elle, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Steve, Robin, Jonathan, Nancy, and Joyce sit. Will and Joyce come running to you first and before you know it their arms are wrapped around you in a bone crushing hug and Joyce begins to cry tears of joy. When they release, you look back up at the rest of the teenagers. Every single one looks uneasy, like they are happy you're alive, but also terrified. "She's not going to hurt you, if that what your thinking." Elle says quietly from the back of the group. You smile at her in gratitude, and she smiles back. Robin takes a glance to Steve, and with a peppy step she smiles and sighs, taking her hand in your own. "Hey Y/N, we haven't met properly yet so hi, Im Robin." You squeeze her hand back and smile, appreciating such a kind gesture. Steve laughs before doing the same, and is followed by Nancy and Jonathan, who although look still quite uneasy, tell you that they're glad they're okay, and Jonathan takes an extra moment to thank you for saving his mother and brothers lives. They begin to settle down and the tension seems to realease as Dustin hands you a Klondike bar and says that Lucas almost shit his pants when he found out you beat the crap 6 Russian dudes, to which Lucas replies, "You're acting like you didn't do the same when we watched the new Michael Myers movie a few weeks ago!" The group laughed at that and you laughed along with them, feeling finally, perfectly at peace. "Where.. where are we?" You ask, and normally that question should have been asked first but for some reason you felt so safe it was almost like you didn't need to know. "Hopp- Elles old home, it's a cabin out in the woods. No one will find us here." Joyce says with a warm smile. "There's a few things we need to talk about, a few things we have to get done soon, but we'll do it all in a few hours, right now, our superheroes need some rest." Max says, eyeing you and Elle. You nod as everyone begins to exit the room, but one person stays. Mike stands there for a moment, watching Elle leave for a nap. You don't know what to say, and instead you look down, avoiding his gaze. "Y/n... I'm- thank you- for saving Will." You just nod back at him. "I- uh- I shouldn't have said a lot of the things I did before I knew-." "Mike." His eyes meet yours for a moment. "You don't have to trust me yet. I understand, I understand and see how much those people out there mean to you. I get how you could be angry with me. If i was in your shoes, I would be too." You say, with shaky hands. "I just want you to know, that I care about them too. Elle, Will, Max, all of them. They're the first real friends I've had." You pause for a moment and smile weakly at him. "You're no expectation either, Mike. And even though you may feel uneasy about me, I want you to know I am not here to hurt you, not anymore." The room is silent besides the crackling of a fire nearby. "Thank you. Y/N. You're strong, just like Elle." He says, smiling back at you. He puts a stack of papers at the edge of your bed. "Don't tell anyone, but I'm pretty sure you want to know what's going on." And with that he leaves.
The papers on the top of the stack reveal that the fire had been controlled at the coffee shop, and the police ruled it to be a robbery, started by the homeless man who entered the place with a gun, and the waitress lighting the place on fire by accident. Good, so there's no public panic yet. The next papers reveal a string of Russian messages and translations. A sticky note, obviously in Mike's handwriting read 'messages that came from that bracelet of yours' you skimmed through the messages, most of which were from Brenner demanding you come back to the base at once, but the last one was quite different. The translation read, "You will need to come back soon either way. Time is running out and the end of both sides will be your fault." They needed to find a way to close that gate and kill the monster once and for all, and soon. The last paper in the stack was a schematic, a plan. It was lined with the words, save Hopper, and you read the plan in shock. They knew were the base was already, and they have already been inside! The newly developed plan called for an infiltration with the eldests of the group, who would open a back entrance way for you and Elle. The rest of the kids would supply the gasoline and bullets you needed outside until the military forces got there. Elle would go with Joyce to save Hopper, and you would go to destroy the Russians near the gate. Finally, you and Elle would meet up to destroy the gate once and for all. Standing up and tightening the bandage on your leg, you knew it was time. To finish this mission, even if you were on a different side from where you started, you knew this is exactly where you needed to be.
You opened the door, everyone already packing up bullets and guns, getting ready for battle. "Y/n?" Steve said, surprised that you were up. You pushed him aside with a playful smile and made your way over to Elle, who was sitting outside on the steps, wrapped in a blanket. She turned around to meet your gaze and she smiled, but she was sad, but at the same time held determination in her gaze just like you did. "Hey, I wanted to thank you, for what happened back at the coffee shop." You said, looking out into the dense forest ahead of you. The cabin was a small two bedroom with lots of holes and breaks in the floor and ceiling, and it was dusty looking like no one had cleaned out here for months, yet Elle looked so at home. "This was where I stayed, with Hopper, last year." She said, almost reading your mind. "He means a lot to you all... doesn't he?" She nodded her head. "He was the closest thing to a father I've ever had. That's why— that's why i'd risk anything to save him, because he'd do the same for me." "You're a good person Elle, neither of us— don't deserve what Brenner has put us through." She flinches slightly at the name, "He's- He's- alive?" Her hand begins to shake a bit, and you grab in it reassurance. "Yeah, but he's not going to hurt you, or anyone else, I promise you, I will make sure of it. Well go out there, and do what we need to do to defeat this thing once and for all, so that finally, we can leave it in the past and live." Her voice lowers to a sad whisper as she turns to face you. "What about the person you love?Joyce said you said they have someone you love there too?" "I—I dont honestly know if I can save her, Elle." You reply eyes filling with tears. "I don't know- I don't know where my mom is, or if she's even—." Next thing you know, she's grabbing your wrist. She hold it and looks at you in reassurance, and you just nod. Carefully she rolls it over and pulls up your sleeve, revealing the 012 mark. "While we're there, closing the gate, I'll do anything I can to help you get any information on where to find here, and If you promise to help us save Hopper, I'll promise you I'll do anything you help save your mom." You nod, moving your hand in hers to lock pinkies. "I- I- Promise." She smiles, squeezing your hand back, and then sighing as she looks back into the forest . How many of us do you think there are?" She says softly, eyes focusing on the half destroyed house and trees in the area. "I don't know. Hopefully not that many. It sucks, sometimes I just feel like a weapon or monster." You reply, looking down at her own 011 mark. "You're not, Y/N.... You're my—my sister." She says. Your eyes widen and you laugh softly, pulling her into a hug. "Sisters. Yeah, forever."
