With lack of little other to say, Graham stated the obvious: "Well, that escalated quickly."
"Duly noted, Captain Obvious," Carmen groaned.
Graham took out the key Devineaux gave him, and slipped it in the interior keyhole to open the van doors.
"You can't just open the door, the air suction will make you fly out!" Chief cautioned.
"It doesn't matter anyway," Graham assured her, "This is the wrong key. We're stuck."
Chief and Carmen's eyes widened. "What?!"
Graham showed hologram Chief his key, a two inch silver piece of chiseled metal.
"Who gave you that?" Chief demanded.
"Devineaux did, why?" Graham asked. "You don't think he did it maliciously, do you?"
Chief huffed, "I will ask Devineaux if it was an accident or not, but he seems to have given you the key for Miss San Diego's new 'bracelets.' Give me a a few minutes, we'll figure something out."
"We may not have a few minutes, Chief. V.I.L.E is everywhere, and we've already been driving for 15 minutes!" Carmen interrupted, clearly tense, and starting to yank at her metal 'bracelets.'
"Woah, are you okay, mate?" Graham asked.
"No, Gray! I'm not!" Carmen barked, panicking slightly.
"Hold on, how do you know this is V.I.L.E?" Chief asked, slightly suspicious.
"Because not only am I in this stupid van, but Gray— Graham is too! Who else would it be?" Carmen yelled her.
"Why would V.I.L.E want Graham?"
Carmen's eyes darkened, "I don't answer to you."
Chief shrugged, "Maybe not, but he does. So," she turned to Graham, "Why would they want you specifically? This is the second time in less than two weeks, Hawkins."
Graham shook his head. "I don't know," he said, "and now isn't the time to figure it out."
Chief nodded, "Fine. I'll get back in contact with you soon." And then she disappeared.
Graham put his pen in his breast pocket. "That didn't help at all."
"Well, at least now we know we're being freaking kidnapped!" Carmen offered.
"Now, get me out of these."
"What? No!"
"Really? You seriously won't uncuff me?" She raged.
"You're still a criminal, Carmen!" Graham reminded her, not-so-gently.
She groaned, and started kicking at the door.
"It's tungsten painted titanium, Carmen. You'll never break through it. Do yourself a favor and please don't break your foot," Graham insisted.
She turned and glared at him, "How about you help me, then?"
"Help you how?" He asked, throwing his hand in the air. That's when he looked up and saw a lever. Connected to it was a small, 3x2 squared indented into the top of the van, barely visible. But Graham saw it, and so did Carmen. It was an escape door labeled "Emergency Use Only."
Yeah, this qualified as a pretty big emergency.
He looked to her, "Can you climb out in handcuffs?"
Her eyes narrowed, "In most circumstances, yes."
"What about this one?"
"No."
