"I can't believe this," Shadow laughed, as Graham stood 3 feet away from Carmen San Diego.
La femme rouge.
The Miss of Misdemeanor.
The world's greatest thief.
ACME's most wanted.
And now, it seemed, Graham's girlfriend. "Scarlett Santa Rosa."
His cousin punched his arm playfully. "You've been here in South Korea for how long? Two and a half months? And you didn't tell me you have a girlfriend? C'mon dude, I thought we were closer than that!"
Carmen was smirking with a look that implied, haha, your cousin thinks we're dating. Try getting rid of me now, Agent.
Graham glared at her when Shadow wasn't looking. Carmen raised an eyebrow.
"Uh, yeah. Sorry, our relationship just isn't really known at work either... I guess I just forgot to tell you?" Graham lied. Carmen nodded, confirming his story.
"Well," Shadow turned to Carmen. "Scarlett, I'm sorry my cousin's an idiot. But, sense you're here now, I suppose we can properly give you that tour of the warehouse."
Alarm bells immediately went off in Graham's mind. "A tour of the what now?"
"Well, you didn't tell me about your girlfriend, so I didn't tell you I planned a tour. Also, I gave you one, so it's only fair I give your girlfriend one, too," Shadow reasoned. "Theoretically speaking, she could be apart of the family someday."
"I thought about telling you, but I didn't want to ruin the surprise," 'Scarlett' beamed.
Graham wanted to scream at Shadow over how naïve he was being, and to call the police immediately, but he knew he couldn't do that.
For one thing, Carmen would get away before anyone could grab her, he knew that.
Second? Screaming at his cousin would be rude.
Third?
He was technically using his cousin to watch the binyeo, just as Carmen was doing to Shadow now.
He was just as bad as her.
And he couldn't sacrifice their relationship by admitting that.
"Right," Graham fake smiled, "Well, then we might as well get going."
The warehouse, was just like any other building like it. It wasn't particularly tall, but it was amazingly wide with see-through tarp covering open holes in the ceiling to let in light and block rain. The walls were a boring grey decorated with slightly rusted metal, and the floor was a dusty concrete.
However, the unbearably ordinary setting accented the contents INSIDE the warehouse beautifully.
Shimmering in the sun, flaunting their exquisiteness on grey carts, or providing color amongst stacks of paper, were rows upon rows of artifacts. Each was labeled, each had it's own space, every one was stunning.
Graham saw a lot of binyeos, but none of them were the Red Crackle kind. He made sure to watch Carmen extra carefully as she made small-talk with his cousin. She didn't seem to be saying anything particularly wrong, (accept the obvious) which was something that made him even more worried.
His phone dinged in his pocket. He fished it out and read a text from Darja.
"Update?" She asked.
"She is going by 'Scarlett Santa Rosa', "he texted back.
"Do you need back up? This is Darrel," Darja wrote back.
