The three agents got out of the plane. The sky was a pastel multicolor rainbow, with drapes of gray clouds darted across the sky.
Devineaux and Graham had gotten to know each other better, though Graham could tell his fellow agent still didn't completely trust him. Quite honestly? Graham didn't blame him. Their whole back story was filled with questions, and things that didn't make sense. It also didn't sound like something Devineaux could just make up.
But one thing it had made clear, was that maybe Chief was right about Carmen not being who she said she was.
We are the good guys, right?
Absolutely.
If she were so good, why didn't she tell him she knew him? She had to know how important getting his memory back was to him, especially sense now he could do all types of crazy stuff, without knowing how he did it. Zari almost slapped him when he accidentally activated a parachute inside the plane. She asked how on earth he knew how to activate a military-grade parachute. Alas, he had no clue, it's not like the average electrician had to do that type of thing. He just saw a fancy box, thought he recognized it, played with a few buttons and levers, and boom! Parachute on the plane.
Speaking of Agent Zari, she had mostly kept to herself on the trip. She only looked up to correct either of her colleagues, or to annoy Devineaux. Other than that, she was silent, with her eyes glued to the screen of her computer. The parachute incident was the longest interaction he had with her.
However, it was a different story now.
"Our mission is to make sure the red crown is secure, and keep it that way," She explained as the group walked through the airport.
"Uh, would you mind explaining that? I've heard of many crowns, but never a red one," Graham admitted.
Zari didn't even look at him, but she explained, "Before the pharaoh Narmer, or Menes united the Egyptian Kingdom, Egypt was separated into two parts: lower and upper Egypt. That means there was two pharaohs, one of each part of the kingdom. The Hedjet, or white crown was what the ruler of upper Egypt wore. And the Deshret, or red crown, is what the ruler of lower Egypt wore. When the two Egypt's were united, the crown was put together to create the Pschent, or double crown. That's what the pharaohs wore until the empire's collapse. We've been yet to find that or the Hedjet, but we did recently discover a real and authentic Deshret in a tomb near the Valley of Kings, where many of the pharaohs were buried, including King Tut. We're not sure how it survived, much less what it was doing near the Valley of Kings which was created considerably later, but alas, it's definitely authentic, and is being displayed in an exhibit here."
"And what about Carmen San Diego?" Devineaux asked.
"If she's smart, she'll keep her red hat away from our red crown. If she isn't? We'll catch her."
Graham was uneasy about this, despite everything going on, and how he felt his loyalties shifting slightly, he still wasn't keen on the idea of hunting down Carmen. Though, he did really need to talk to her. In part because he wanted answers, in other part because he just wanted to see her again.
They left the airport.
Graham had been to the US a couple times to visit family, but never to the West Coast. His cousin lived in the east of the nation. Things over in Seattle seemed less chill, and more chic. People wore more black, and the place was more grey, and less colorful. Maybe that was a west USA thing, maybe just a Seattle thing. He didn't know.
Seattle also had a different air about it, though. It gave him an electric feeling. The stone side walk was dirty, the people were less smiley, but the place still had that zing about it that made it feel exciting, and like anything could happen. It was cool! Graham looked around and saw the Space Needle amongst the clouds in the distance. It was like a UFO, which is probably how it got its name. The Space Needle was a plate stood up on a slightly curvy, skinny tower. A needle, topped with a light and flag at top. It reminded him a lot of Auckland.
