One week later...
"That's one hell of a crater." Lucius remarked
"Thank you captain obvious." Sasha joked.
Life in the Capital had proceeded the same as before in the days after Eric's last stand. Mostly, people were trying to ignore the gaping crater in the ground as much as the threat beyond their walls.
Lucius and Sasha sat on a park bench enjoying the late afternoon sun.
"Any news from the hospital?" Sasha asked.
Lucius shook his head sadly. Poor kid still hasn't woken up. Something about his body being unable to wake up." Lucius felt the mood darken.
I'm sure it'll be over soon." He added.Sasha punched his shoulder lightly. "Of course he will."
He put his arm over her shoulder, and they watched the sun set over the walls of the Capital as she nestled her head on his shoulder.
"So, how am I doing?" Lucius asked.
Sasha pondered the question. "This date is almost perfect."
Lucius furrowed his brow. "Almost?"
She pressed her lips against his fiercely, and then pulled away just as quickly. "There, now it's perfect."
2 Weeks Later...
Elizabeth sat in the plastic chair the hospital provided for visitors and watch Eric's chest rise and fall in tandem with the life support monitor.
She clenched his limp hand tightly, "Come on, please wake up... you have to." A tear slid down her face and made a small circle on the white sheet.
Releasing his hand, she turned to a vase of wilted flowers and dumped it into a nearby waste bin, replacing the water and adding a bouquet of fresh ones to the vase.
Sniffling, she gathered up her bag, and left the room, the door clicking shut behind her.
Elizabeth's footsteps echoed loudly as she walked down the plain tiled hall. She paused at the door to the exit briefly, before wiping her face with the back of her sleeve.
Then, she pushed the door open, and stepped into the sunlight.
