Twenty-Six - Valerio
"My life is like a movie, each scene I walk through is been directed by me - unintentional or intentional. The cottage and everything else with it is just intentional scenes to be recorded and saved in that flash drive in my head. The night sky filled me wholeheartedly. Each star reminds me that light does take over darkness, but darkness reaches you first. It's a sense of realism."
I jot down in my journal, trying not to groan at how fast the car is moving and it's making my handwriting stumble. I pass my journal to a friend sitting next to me, "Can you read the first two words?" I ask politely. The friend's eyes squint then nod back to me, passing the journal. I close my journal and place it inside my bag.
"It looks gorgeous don't you think?" A woman's voice spoke up, and I nodded. "Valerio, are you nervous?" She continued. She turned around the front seat, having a better look at me while I said "I guess I am, this is something I wanted to do for so long, and the fact I am finally getting to do it makes me feel good." I admit, looking at my three friends. The friend sitting next to me slapped my thigh, "Valerio, you're going to find yourself here trust us, and when you come back you're probably going to upload your first song-" He says, making my eyes widen.
I wanted to be an indie singer. I wanted to bring a smile to people's faces and share my world with people who listen to my music. I brought in my closest friends who have supported me throughout this dream of mine. "When you come back! I will find you an agency and become your manager!" The man driving the car made me scoff with elation.
Luna was sitting in the front seat, with Raphael driving and Joan sitting right next to me. These three decided they would give me a starting point to discover my true interests and maybe 'write my first song' as Luna would say. After research and exclamations, Joan found this cottage by a flower field and Luna rented a car while Raphael was searching for agencies. I had auditioned before this plan came to execution, however, Raph said he would pass on the result to me while I am feeling myself.
It feels legendary that I am actually going to be pursuing my passion. I can't contain my cheerfulness so I ask Raph "Are we there yet?" Luna and Joan laugh, while Raph tries to contain it and glares at me through the rear mirror, "Man, I am telling you, we're almost there."
"You've been saying that for the past fifteen minutes!" Luna playfully hits Raph and the car is filled with laughter that almost makes me cry. I see flowers creating a serene space, while a house comes into the frame. "Is that it?" I ask, pointing while looking at my friends and back. Joan squints his eyes and smiles as wide as me, "I think that's the one," "Take a turn Raph," Luna says, patting him at the back. The car turns freely as the distance gets shorter.
We reach there in no time, and the lanterns immediately catch my attention. "This looks, immaculate guys!" I cheer, applauding like I already passed the audition. "Hold your horses, we have to make sure someone's around here-" Joan tries to be the good person, but Luna walks ahead and tries to open the cottage. The interior takes us by surprise. There are rooms upstairs and downstairs and everything is so organized. Luna tries to enter one of the rooms but I hold back her wrist - "Not now, people could be sleeping let's go upstairs."
Raph takes the lead, followed by me and Luna then Joan. "Okay, so I got your room, I am pretty sure the people here are nice and would make sure you're comfortable." He points at the free room with a door slightly open. I can see a slide of the window draped with a classy fabric. We all enter, trying not to make any noises. "This looks perfect!" Joan whispers as Luna and he shares a high-five. I open the door and the bed seems comfier than I anticipated. This is the kind of getaway I would admire, and my expectations have flown out of the window.
"What about you guys?" I ask with concern. "We'll be having a breather here and rest up downstairs. There's a guest room and Luna plans on resting there, while we join you here for the night." Raphael makes it clear for me and we go for a group hug.
After placing our baggage inside the room, we found a piece of paper by the nightstand. Joan switched off the light of the lamp while grabbing the piece of paper and folding it into a paper plane.
-----------------
Through the night, paper planes have been flying, and we've fallen into flower fields. Luna has placed a flower on her ear saying "Don't waste any flowers," Laughter overflowing out of us, Joan tripping on air. Raphael playing tricks (which works most of the time) sooner or later to be flown out of sight.
I volunteer to look for it. The three of them wait patiently, while Luna doesn't have her eyes on the ground; finding the paper plane in her place. "I don't think the lanterns would give us light that far." Raphael spoke, "Valerio literally had a glimpse of the cottage due to the lanterns-" Joan debates. "We wouldn't want to get lost though if all of us spread out," Luna speaks the truth. After a few seconds of silence, the three of them say in sync. "Valerio, we believe in you!"
I am on the lookout, and it doesn't take a while for a light to come my way. My eyes are following the light, as my footsteps are slow and steady. All of sudden the flashlight changes view and my eyes widen.
Faint whispers fly like the wind, and my hope rises. "Can you please flash the light where you did before? I am trying to find a paper plane." I say, catching the whisper's attention. The flashlight comes back on again and I feel proud. I tell them to keep it still and it takes a few seconds for me to adjust to the light. Whispers start again and I am trying to hold on to them so I can reach them, hoping they would know where the paper plane is. A woman's voice makes me look up and flinch again at the light. "Keep following the light!" She calls out, and I hear it loud and clear. I needed this.
I start picking up the pace and see not one but two figures unfolding against the light. The light gets in my eyes and the flashlight is switched off in a blink of an eye. We had a conversation about the paper plane being somewhere near them as the woman's voice sounded beautiful, just like the wind.
She flashes the light to where she thinks it must have fallen, and I walk towards it. It doesn't take a while for me to find comfort in her voice and her curiosity amuses me.
Who knew my movie could have a dreamlike love interest?
