The team had come back from the press conference late in the afternoon. They were all tired and hungry, which made some of them, especially Thor easily irritated. "A toddler with a hammer" Had Wanda described him as. Now they all sat gathered around the kitchen table, Peter watching as the heroes slowly got back some of their energy whilst eating, but not him. He had barely touched his noodles and was trying not to get anyone attention. Nobody seamed focused at him, they were all listening to Nat, who was complaining about a creepy reporter. "I was about to shoot his kneecap off" She laughed, Bruce and Clint joining her laughter before they got lost in another conversation.
"-TER, HELLO??" Someone called out, taking Peter back to earth. Oh shit. He had dissociated again. "Peter, did you hear me?" Sam asked. The boy looked up, shaking his head. Tony chuckled, "I wonder what's going on inside of that brain of yours Einstein". Peter froze when he heard that nickname. His eyes widened and his breathing quickly got faster. "Don't c-call me t-that" He said. The nickname had woken a memory that the teen had worked very hard to repress. "Don't call you what, Einstein?" Tony asked jokingly. Something in Peter snapped, he stood up so quickly that his chair fell over. "I SAID DONT CALL ME THAT!" he screamed, trying not to cry, but it didn't work. The heroes shared concerned looks across the table. Tony took Peters had, who was now shaking from crying. "Im sorry, I won't call you that again," he said softly, trying to calm the teen down, who was on the verge of a panic attack. Everybody was staring at Peter, which only made him even more stressed. "Why don't we watch a movie?" Steve intervened. The others got the hint, stopped staring at the boy and quickly went into the living room.
Tony waited for everyone to leave, whilst getting the boy a glass of water. After a minute almost everybody was gone.
"Pete, you okay?" He asked. Peter had managed to calm down and was wiping tears that stubbornly was flowing down his cheeks. He nodded a little. "Yea I'm alright", he tried to sound convincing, but his wavering voice gave him away. Tony looked at him suspiciously but didn't say anything. "I-i umm, I'm just gonna go uhh to the bathroom," Peter said, desperately wanting to be alone. Bucky, who had stood in the kitchen the whole time locked eyes with him, staring firmly into the boy's eyes. Peter looked down on the ground, ashamed that his plan had been busted. "Nevermind" he mumbled before walking out to the others. They were having a star wars marathon, it had been Clint's idea since he knew how much the teen liked the movies, and nobody else in the household had ever seen them. The time was around 1 am when the credits to the third movie were rolling. The whole room was filled with blankets, pillows and snacks. Bucky and Steve were laying on the floor, wrapped into big blankets. Sam was also on the floor but lost inside a mountain of pillows. Clint had climbed inside of the vents with all of the chocolate and was watching the movie from there, whilst Nat was throwing popcorn at him from one of the armchairs. . Bruce and Tony were sitting next to each other, talking about the nerdy shit in the movie. Thor was sitting in another armchair with Mjolner, complaining about how space didn't look like that at all. Towards the end of the couch Wanda sat, with Peter curled up against her side, sound asleep. Now and then he would anxiously move around a little bit, but Wanda would quickly calm him down and manage to get him to continue sleeping.
Two hours later was Steve, Nat, Bucky and Thor asleep as well. "Hey guys," Wanda said carefully. Everybody awake looked at her. "Im worried about Peter,". Tony took a deep breath. "Yea, me too Wanda," He said. "The way he reacted to Tony calling him Einstein, that's not normal" Sam chimed in. "I wonder why" He continued. The room got quiet. "He has a traumatic memory connected to that word" Bruce broke the silence. Everybody looked at him. "Maybe one of his parents called him that?" Wanda suggested, but Bruce shook his head. "No, he was panicking, if he associated that word with a loved one he would be sad, but he wasn't sad, he was scared". He explained "So what are you saying? That someone who had hurt him used to call him that?" Clint asked. "I don't know what I'm saying, but do you remember how he never wanted to be alone with one of us but didn't have a problem being alone with three? How he sometimes starts to panic when you touch him on a specific area of his hand?" Bruce answered.
"You don't think that somebody..." Tony couldn't even finish the sentence. Even the thought of someone touching Peter like that was sickening. Everybody turned their head towards the sleeping boy. He looked so peaceful, sleeping safely on Wanda's shoulder. It couldn't be true. "It's just a theory" Clint pointed out, trying to calm everybody down. "Yea, a theory, nothing more" Bruce backed up.
"He has been tinkering with FRIDAY" Tony changed the subject. "I talked to her the day before yesterday, but she didn't answer, apparently Peter has made her go mute whenever he gets a panic attack". Clint sighed. "I hoped that it was just a one-time thing," He said. "He has been through a lot of things, I'm just surprised that not eating is his only way to cope," Bruce said. "That's not his only way to cope," Bucky said, who had just woken up.
