The meeting

Natasha closed the bedroom door behind her. She sunk down on the floor, hands trembling and eyes watery. She read the words scribbled on the piece of paper, the tears in her eyes made it hard to see. She read the words over and over again until she could recite every word on that note without hesitation. Her baby had done this, he had written this.

Natasha got up on her shaky legs. As quietly as possible she walked to the living room, her thoughts racing. It wasn't often that Natasha didn't know what to do, but right now she had no idea. She should tell someone, shouldn't she? Probably anyone else was a better choice to deal with this than she was. She got to the living room that was connected to the kitchen. What should she do now? Who should she talk to? Probably not Tony, Nat didn't know how the billionaire would react and she didn't want to find out alone. Thor, Wanda, and Bucky are also off the table, they often resolved their problems by escaping reality or breaking something. Natasha reasoned with herself, Bruce or Steve was the only logical answer, but which one of them should she talk to? Steve was probably out on his morning jog and wouldn't be back for a while, but Bruce was sleeping and she didn't want to wake him up.

Natasha repeated the words in her head from the note over and over again. She couldn't hold back her tears and they were freely streaming down her face. She was crying so hysterically that she didn't even notice that Steve walked out of the elevator.
"NAT! What's wrong?!" Steve asked, he ran towards her and caught her in his arms, embracing her carefully. He had never seen her cry like that, heartbroken. Steve picked her up since her body was shaking so much and put her down on the big couch.
"What's up, what's wrong?" He asked worriedly. Natasha reached into her pocket and pulled out the piece of paper. Steve took it with caution and read it, his eyes tearing up as he understood what the note actually was.
"Tasha promise me you're not gonna do that, you mean too much to me, please don't leave," He said quietly, almost inaudibly when he had finished reading, he was clearly on the verge of tears.
"No, no Steve, that's not mine," Nat said softly through her tears. She moved Steves thumb so that he could see the bottom of the note.  I'm sorry/Peter parker. Steve gasped and he couldn't hold back his tears anymore.
"FRIDAY, schedule a meeting in an hour for everyone but Peter," He said weakly.

Everyone except Peter sat around the kitchen table, they were waiting for somebody to speak up.
"Hey Cap, you cant call a meeting and then don't say anything," Sam finally said.
"Yea, what's going on? has something happened?" Bruce asked, looking up at Natasha, who obviously knew something. Both her and Steve had been able to get themselves together, Steve's face was no longer red and puffy from crying and Nat had already put up her stone-cold facade again. Steve cleared his throat a little to get everyone's attention.
"Um, Nat she found um...." he started, trying to find the right words.
"This, in Peters room," Natasha said and pulled out the piece of paper from her pocket. She knew that if she looked at it she would break down, so instead, she gave the paper to Thor, who was sitting right beside her.

Thor gasped when he finally understood what the note meant. With shaking hands he gave the note to Wanda. The note got passed around the table, everybody present got to read it. Everybody who sat around that table had at least once in their life written a note like the one they were reading. Some of them had acted more on it than others, but they all knew the pain behind that note. In a few places the paper had been stained with teardrops and the ink had smudged. They had all reacted differently to it, but the emotions were the same. Fear, sadness, guilt, anger. The room got quiet as they all read, once Bucky had read it he passed it on to Tony, the last one to read it.
"Guys, Peter can never know that we found this," Clint said. A few of them agreed with him before turning their attention towards Tony, to see his reaction to the piece of paper.

The wrinkle between Tonys's eyebrows grew deeper and deeper for every word that he read. He had finished reading the note but didn't move a finger. All he could do was stare at the piece f paper, he was paralyzed with fear. The kid, his kid was in so much pain that the only outcome he could see was death. It wasn't possible.

Footsteps came closer, slowly as if someone was dragging their feet against the ground.
"Hey guys", Peter said with a fake smile plastered on, emerging from the corridor. Everybody could tell that he was faking the happiness, but they decided not to embarrass the poor boy even more. The smile disappeared though, as soon as he realized that all of the Avengers sat in the kitchen.
"Did I miss something? i-im sorry, i-uhh" Peter quickly rambled, trying to come up with a lie to as why he was late to the meeting. He didn't even recall being told about one.
"No, we didn't plan a meeting, we were just chatting about our last mission", Bruce lied. The scientist never lied, so Peter didn't suspect anything.

"Oh, okay", Peter accepted the answer.
"What are you guys reading?" He asked when he noticed Tony's troubled face, who still hadn't moved. The room got filled with dismissive murmurs.
"Don't worry about it" Sam assured. But Peter was smarter than that, he knew that he would probably regret reading the paper, but his curiosity won over his better judgment. Peter slowly walked over to Tony who just had woken up from his trance. Quickly he grabbed the paper from his mentor's hands, and Tony tried to duck, but Peter was faster. Horror filled the boy when he read what he had written last night.

Hey guys, I am really sorry. So so sorry, for all of this. I will miss you all, wherever I am. I'm not sure what comes after death, but don't worry I will soon find out. This feels like the only possible ending, I'm not destined to grow up like the rest of you did. But this way is better, I can forever be your little spider kid. I just want to say thank you, for during this past two years making my life more bearable, for giving my life meaning, making it a story. But every story must have an end, and this story just happens to not be a happily ever after. At least for me. I love you all, please don't be mad.

I'm sorry/Peter Parker.
