Broken - Payton Moormeier

I wake up feeling better than I did yesterday which is always good. I get out of bed and get dressed into sweats and an oversized shirt the go to the hall for breakfast. Same isn't there so I ask Tom where he is and he says Sam is still in bed. Time for some sweet revenge.

"Rise and shine, c'mon wake up" I say walking into Sams room. He ignores me and rolls over
"Wakey wake, time to get up" I say shaking him lightly

"Fuck off" he says

"Why, you wake me up almost every morning. Plus's your going to miss breakfast" I say

"Fine I'm up now piss off" he says as he sits up

I leave his room and go watch tv in the living room with some of the other patients. After a couple of minutes Sam walk by and goes to the hall for food. I wait for him to come to the living room but he doesn't. I go to his room and knock on his door before I go in and he's back in bed.

"Hey are you ok" I ask sitting at the end of his bed

"Yeah I just couldn't get to sleep last night" Sam says

"How comes" I ask

"My mind wouldn't shut off, I had a million thoughts running through my head but it wasn't like normal one of planning what I'm going to do the next day or something. It was the kind of thoughts that make me anxious" he says

"I get you, that's why I don't sleep most nights. Those thoughts that are racing around your head keep you up all night no matter how tiered you are" I say

"Yeah its been happening for a couple nights now and I guess I'm just really tiered" he says

"Ok well if you want to talk about it then you know where I am" I say

"I know, I might go talk to Julie if she is available" he says

"As much as I hate her I think that's a good idea" I say "I'll let you get some sleep"

I get up and leave his room. Sam is the kind of person that doesn't like to open up when he's going through something so I know that he's most likely not going to talk to Julie about it, however I also know that when someone is going through something you shouldn't push then to tell you what's wrong. Most of the time its best when you let them know your available to talk to and give them time to talk to you, so that's what I'm going to do.

I go back to the living room and talk to some of the other patients. When they start annoying me I go to the quiet room. I get my phone and airpods so I can listen to music while I'm in there, I also get one of the colouring books. I sit at the small table in there and colour. I get interrupted when Tom comes in and sits on a bean bag opposite me.

"So how are you feeling today" he asks

"Better I guess" I say

"Good, your review with Julie is tomorrow dont forget" he says

"How can I, I've been dreading it all week" I say

"They aren't that bad" he says

"They are long and boring. Its always the same thing like there should be something new" I say

"That's not how it works" he laughs "You going for a walk today"

"Probably why" I ask

"Because that security guard is working today. I'm not telling you that you should wait a couple of hours because that's when his shift ends because that would be wrong but I thought I would let you know" he says

"Well thank you for that information that hasn't impacted what time I was going to leave at all" I say

"Your welcome" Tom says before getting up and leaving

I finish colouring the drawing I was doing before going back to my room. I watch Netflix until I get a text from Payton saying he is back from physio. I tell him I'll see him in a bit, the stupid security hasn't left yet. I watch Netflix for another hour and a half until I check if the guard is gone. I tell Tom that I'm leaving and will be back in time for dinner. I stop at the cafeteria and get a cookie and apple juice. I then go to Paytons room.

"Bitch face" I say grabbing his attention as I walk into his room "I got you a cookie, gotta pay me two dollars though"

"What why, they are one dollar in the cafeteria" Payton says taking the cookie

"And I gotta make money some how" I say

"I got no money anyway" he says

"Haha sucks to be you" I laugh at him "Gimme your laptop" I ask and he hands it to me

"Why" he asks

"Because I wanna watch Josh Richards new video" I tell him

"I'm friends with him, we went on tour in summer 2019 but he moved to La and I came back home" he says

"I only watch his and Bryce's videos for the drama" I say

We watch youtube for a bit an end up talking. I leave after an hour because a nurse comes in to check some stuff. I go back to my ward and let Tom know that I'm back, I go to my room and watch Netflix until dinner. After dinner I go check on Sam and spend the rest of the night with him and try to cheer him up. That is until I have to get ready for bed and pretend to be asleep.
