It was a gorgeous day outside. The sky was blue, birds were chirping. The denizens of City Z were going about their daily lives without a care in the world. Everything seemed to be going well.

... that was until a monster arrived.

"HUMANITY SHALL PAY FOR RUINING MOTHER EARTH!"

The denizens began to scream as the large, buff purple monster crashed into their city, knocking over buildings like it was no one's business. The monster formed balls of energy, throwing them around and causing more destruction. Smoke and steam rose into the air. Cracks formed on the pavement.

All seemed bad, but luckily, two heroes were on their way to save the day. Two A Class heroes, that is. The two heroes, Lightning Max and Stinger, stood before the floating monster, fists out.

"The heroes are here!" the civilians cheered with relief.

"Don't worry!" Lightning Max cried out, Stinger behind him. "We'll-"

The monster rolled his eyes, taking out both the heroes with one hit. They were sent flying back, crashing into the mess of destroyed buildings.

"You really think you can stand up to Mother Earth's apostle?!" the monster roared. The civilians screamed in horror.

Elsewhere in the city, an ordinary-looking man was sitting in his apartment, watching the news on screen. He was lying back, position casual.

"City Z is under attack!" a newscaster screamed. The man watched the purple monster flying around, destroying things with balls of energy. He gazed at the knocked out heroes also displayed on the screen.

"Guess I'll go." the man shrugged, standing up.

Meanwhile, in another different part of the city, a young man was making his way to school, school bag over his shoulder. This young man's name was Taro Yamada, and there was not a more average student you could find, from everything down to his looks to his intelligence.

Despite his mediocrity, Taro attended Akademi High, the most prestigious school in the world. And he knew he couldn't be late no matter what. Akademi was very strict about its attendance. Plus, his best friend Osana Najimi was waiting for him at the school. She'd get upset if he was late to see her.

So it was rather unfortunate when Mr. Yamada got himself caught up in the monster attack.

It's not like Taro was oblivious to the existence of monsters. Everyone - especially in City Z - knew about the dangerous mysterious beings that crept in the darkness, eyes peering dangerously at every corner. Taro had to wonder why Akademi had been built in a city that was so notorious for its amount of monsters. Then again, the girl who had designed the school, according to most sources, had been... rather eccentric, to say the least.

Still, even with the aforementioned awareness of mysterious beings, that didn't exactly mean Taro was prepared to encounter one. Most ordinary civilians weren't. They left all of that to the heroes. Sadly, it seemed the heroes weren't around this time.

Taro's body began to shake as the ground rumbled beneath him. It suddenly exploded, launching him onto his back. His legs groaned in pain, smoke obscuring his vision. He held onto his school bag, sitting up. His eyes widened in horror when he saw the damage of the blow: buildings knocked over, craters from explosions, smoke and steam...

Then a shadow covered him from behind. A monster loomed above him, eyes narrowed. It was tall and humanoid with bulging muscles, and deep purple skin. Spikes were scattered across the bulging flesh.

Taro scrambled backwards, his breathing scattered. The monster grinned wide, revealing a row of sharp teeth.

"What a pathetic looking human," he drawled. "No wonder Mother Earth wanted me to eliminate you all!"
