Taro and Ayano stared at each other down. The classmates, the friends, the lovers... the enemies. The two sides of the prophecy.

Red strings made their way up Taro's arm. Ayano mirrored this. There was a moment of silence. Taro's laughter spiked up again.

"By the time I'm done with you..." His smile hurt his face. "You're going to wish you'd never spoken to me in the first place."

His strings flew off his body, heading straight towards Ayano

His strings flew off his body, heading straight towards Ayano. They wrapped around her arms, restraining her. For a moment, she was unable to move.

"Why did you give Taro Yamada strings?"

God stared down at Ayano, its body twisting and morphing. She stared back.

"This world needs balance," God told her. "You cannot have your strings without someone else to counterbalance you."

Then Ayano broke free. She moved towards Taro, her own strings surrounding her. Taro's smile did not disappear.

"Everything is all your fault," he laughed. "Every death, every tragedy... everything I've been through is all because of you." His strings glitched. "I will kill you. I'll make you suffer. I'll make you feel pain."

He moved beside Ayano, raising his hands.

SLASH!

He missed by a few centimetres. All he managed to do was slice down Ayano's ponytail. Her black hair flowed past her shoulders.

"Why did you give Taro strings?" Ayano asked. "We aren't on equal footing."

"That is correct," God agreed. "It's because he's the complete opposite of you. His life is so insignificant, so bland, so worthless, that he won't be able to fight back against you with his strings."

Taro cackled, sending his string-covered fist flying in Ayano's direction. It hit her, the strings covering her body. Her eyes flashed red.

"He will never be strong enough to be a hero," God continued.

Taro cried out, punching Ayano again. More and more strings wrapped around her.

"He will not be brave enough to make a stand for himself," God said.

Taro knocked Ayano to the ground. She was completely wrapped up in the strings.

"But could he hypothetically still defeat me?" Ayano asked.

"Yes, he could," God agreed. "But that won't happen. You won't let it happen. And he is not capable."
