Chapter 1; Finally

Finally

I yawned and rubbed my eyes as I sat up. The sunlight peeked through the brown curtains. I squinted my eyes as they adjusted to my surroundings. I was in my small apartment, it was nothing special. I've only been here for a year after I managed to get a job. I stretched and cracked my neck, earning a groan of relief. My muscles were stiff from my cheap bed. My eyes widened as realization hit me, I quickly pulled the blankets off of me and got off the bed. I ran to the shower, not waiting a single second. Today was the day, I've waited five fucking years to be able to really train to join the fight to save humanity. I bit my lip as I started the shower. I held my arm out as the water sprinkled down my arm. I waited until the water was warm enough before completely stripping and getting in. I sighed as the lukewarm water poured down on me. I closed my eyes as I imagined what today would be like. A small smile crept onto my lips.

After my shower I quickly grabbed the uniform I got for today. I put my black panties and bra on quickly before slipping the white pants on. I put on the shirt on without hesitation. I secured all the straps over my body before pulling up the brown boots. I grabbed the cropped beige/brown jacket that had the Training Squad symbol on the back of it, I slipped it on slowly. I looked into the mirror by the door and couldn't help but to smile. I definitely looked the part. I threw my long black hair into a messy bun, my green eyes were staring back at me.I sighed as I looked away and looked back around my plain apartment. "Goodbye shitty apartment." I smiled as I turned away to leave.

I held my breath as I entered the large open area. I quickly spotted some familiar faces. I breathed out and smiled. I walked up behind one of them and jumped onto their back. "EREN!" I practically screamed, luckily only some recruits were around. He nearly fell down to the ground in shock.

"S-Scarlett." He gasped as I got off his back. He turned around to face me and pulled me into a hug. I wrapped my arms around his neck and hugged back. Armin and Mikasa quickly joined in. Tears whelled up in my eyes as we all began laughing softly.

"It feels like forever since I last saw you all." I said as we pulled apart from the hug. Eren rolled his similar green eyes as his cheeks slightly reddened. I looked over at Armin and Mikasa who haven't breathed a word yet. Armin was looking down as a soft pink colored his cheeks.

"It's been a year." Mikasa sighed, breaking the silence. "We hoped to see you here." She smiled. She almost looked the same as when I left, she still wore that scarf Eren gave her when they first met. But she definitely got hotter. Did I really just think that? Yes I did. Even Eren and Armin.

"I'm sorry I left. Things just got...complicated." I put my hand behind my neck and chuckled awkwardly.

"No one blames you Scarlett, we're back together now. And we're finally going to kill those bastards!" Eren's voice was full of determination. I matched the look in his eyes.

"You're damn right we are." I growled.

We all stood with our hands behind our backs and feet spread slightly apart as we waited for something, someone. We were in rows, Eren was to my right, while Mikasa was to my left. I remained motionless as we waited for what seemed like eternity before someone stood up on the stage before us.

"So you're the recruits?" He started laughing. "What a pathetic group you lot are. You can call me  Commander Keith." He was a much older gentleman. Well, not a gentleman. More like cranky old fuck. He stepped down from the stage and got up in everyone's faces, yelling insults back and fourth. He reached a girl and stopped dead in his tracks." Are you...are you eating a potato?" He stared in disbelieve as the girl in front of him had a bitten into potato in her hand. She quickly saluted him.

"Yes sir!"

"Why?" Was all he could say.

"Because sir! This potato is simply so good! I couldn't let it go to waste sir!" Some people stared at her in complete shock. I bit my lip to suppress my laugh.

"Why would you eat a potato?" She gasped slightly.

"Are...are you asking me why humans eat potatoes sir?" She tilted her head slightly. We all held back our gasps. Surely she can't be serious? I looked over at them from the corner of my eyes. Neither one of them said anything. She looked down to her potato and sighed. She broke a part of the potato and held it out to him. "Here sir." She smiled slightly. He took it from her slowly. I could have sworn I saw him smile. He ordered her to run until supper was over. She simply gaped at him before saluting him and running off. He continued on down the row of people. He completely passed Eren, Mikasa and I. However he yelled at Armin, thankfully Armin just brushed his insults off. After he was done yelling in everyone's faces we were assigned temporary cabins. I was placed with potato girl from earlier, some girl named Annie, and Mikasa. Thank goodness for that atleast. Eren was in the same cabin as Armin, along with some guy named Jean and Connie.

I sighed heavily as I walked over to our cabin. Potato girl was still running laps. I felt bad for her, she was just eating a potato. I chuckled slightly. Me, Mikasa and Annie entered the cabin and gasped. 'What the fuck' I mouthed to Mikasa. It was a total mess in here! "Okay yeah no." I shook my head. "We have got to clean this shithole up." I muttered as I rolled up my sleeves, Mikasa did the same, Annie just walked to the farthest corner of the room and began cleaning.

After a few hours we had managed to make the place spotless. I smiled at our good work and held my hand up in the air. She highfived me before flopping down on her bed. I fell down ontop of her, causing her to groan. "Scarlett, there are three other beds here, you couldn't have picked one of those to fall on instead of me?"

"Nope." I said with a smirk. We both started laughing before I got up. I looked out the window to see the sun had already start to set." Oh, it's almost dinner. Hey?" I tilted my head slightly so I could look at her. She looked up at me and tilted her head to the side. "I think we should save some of our food for potato girl since she has to do laps until after supper." Annie just rolled her eyes. Mikasa nodded in agreement. I smiled as I let my hair down from it's messy bun. "Let's go." I said as I pushed myself off the bed.
