Chapter 8;  What the Hell??!

Rain started pouring down from the skies. "Why the hell does it rain now??" I grumbled. Mikasa shrugged as the rest of our squad appears.

"Good job you two!!" The Captain says. "Excellent team work as well!"

DING DING DING

We were cut off by the sounds of the bell. The Garrison Captain quickly nods his head. "Alright, we're pulling out, head back to the wall."

"I'll go support the other defense lines retreat!" Mikasa said before she launched her anchor into a nearby building and flew off.

"Damnit..." I growled as I did the same.

"Oi Ackerman!!! Hawke!!!" The soldier called out to us. I caught up with Mikasa and glared at her.

"What the hell Mikasa? We were told to fall back. What do you think-"

"Eren." She said simply. Of course. I let out a long sigh and nodded my head.

"We'll make sure his squad gets back to the wall." My voice cracked slightly. I knew he was capable. But you never know what could happen at a time like this... We landed on the roof of a building and desperately began looking around. My eyes landed on several cadets on buildings over to the right. "There!" I shouted as I made my way over to them. I landed safely right next to Jean. "Jean!!" I yelled a bit loudly. I did the unexpected and pulled him into a hug. My eyes widened as I hugged onto his chest, I could hear his heartbeat going at an unsteady pace.

"Y-you're alive." He gasped. I pulled back from him and eagerly looked around. I saw Connie, Sasha, Reiner, Marco, Bertolt, Krista, Ymir, and Annie.

"Where's-" my gaze rested on a blond figure against the wall sobbing. "Armin!" I said breathlessly as I ran over to him. I fell to my knees as I looked at him. Mikasa landed next to us.

"Mikasa... Scarlett..." He looked up at us.

"Where's Eren?" She whispered. He only sobbed harder. No.

"Our unit... The 34th cadet squad." He paused as he lowered his head. "Thomas Wagner, Nic Tius, Mylius Zeramuski, Mina Carolina... Eren Yeager." My heart dropped. "ALL OF THEM HAVE FULFILLED THEIR DUTIES AND DIED HEROIC DEATHS IN BATTLE." I couldn't stop myself. I choked out a small sob as tears fell like a waterfall down my cheeks. Mikasa somehow refrained from showing emotion. Everyone around us stared in silence. My sobs were the only thing that filled the air. "I'm so sorry... Eren died for my sake.." Tch, typical Eren... Always the hero. My sobs slowly came to a halt as I looked into Armin's puffy red eyes. "I couldn't do anything... IM SO SORRY!!" He yelled at us as tears fell down his face. Mikasa grabbed his hand and looked him in the eyes.

"Armin calm down. This isn't the time to be emotional. Come on, stand up." She pulls him up gently. I scramble up off my feet and wipe my tears away. I sniffle slightly as I look around at all the staring cadets. "Marco, if we take out the titans surrounding HQ-" wait what was she talking about? I blocked her out as I turned my attention to HQ. My eyes widened at the sight before me. Titans were literally all over HQ. Shit...this can't be good.. I was brought back to the current situation when I heard Mikasa yelling. "I can kill all those titans, even if I was by myself you spineless cowards!!" She yelled. My mouth fell open at her words. She pointed her sword at all the others. "How pathetic... You can just sit here and suck on your thumbs." I stared in disbelieve at my best friend as people began questioning her. I knew what she was doing... She was trying to get these people off their asses.

"There's no way you can do that! You'll die!" I heard someone say.

"If I can't, then I'll just die. If I can, then I'll live." She turned away from everyone. "Unless I fight, I cannot win." She said before she flew off with her 3D maneuvering gear.
