Roxy's P.O.V
She couldn't be dead. She just couldn't.
"Rose." I whispered even though I knew it was pointless. I just lay on her sobbing. Kaylyn came to me in human form with tears in her eyes.
"Here." She gave me the dragon scale. "It's not fair!" She screamed to no one. I grabbed Rose's pack from the ground and put the dragon scale in it. I remembered her dream she had told me about last night. I thought how ironic it was that I was standing over her dead and it was my fault she died. I started crying uncontrollably.
What I would give to see her smile again. She was so humble and calm. The exact opposite of me. Why did she have to die?
"Roxy, you need to use the scale before it melts." I was so in shock I didn't realize she was talking to me until she shook me.
"Roxy, there's nothing you can do! S-she's gone." She reached for Rose's pack. I pulled it out of her reach.
"You don't need to be mad at me because she died! It's not my fault!" She yelled..
"Of course it's not your fault!" I snapped. "It's mine. I let the poison back in her body, I let the dragon get her, I let her almost drown in that river. I let her die."
Kaylyn didn't say anything after that. "We have to go now." I said. Kaylyn looked around and saw all the ice melting.
" What about Rose?" She asked. I started a weak fire but it quickly spread throughout the cave.
"ROXY WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING? STOP! YOU'LL BURN ROSE!"
"RUN!" Was my reply."What the fuck Roxy, you just burned everything in there!" Kaylyn told me once the cave was barley smoldering.
"I know that was kinda the point." I snapped.
"Why?"
"Oh, I don't know maybe because I wanted to roast some marshmallows. What do you think? I wanted to make sure that the dragon never hurt anyone again. Plus it was the only way I could think to "bury" Rose's body."
"Sorry I-"
"Shut up!" I had heard something move inside the cave.
"Fine. But let me just-"
" I said shut up!" Something was definitely moving in the cave. " The cave." I said before Kaylyn spoke again. She looked towards it and heard something moving as well. Then something blue appeared at the mouth of the the cave. I stood up at pulled out my knife. Then it stood in the fading sunlight."Roxy?" A weak female voice asked. I took a few steps towards the source of noise not daring to hope. The blue object attempted a step towards me, but fell down. This time I ran and covered the distance between me and the blue body. It couldn't be her. Rose had died before my eyes. She turned to look at me. "Roxy." She said.
"Rose?" I did dare to hope.
"That's the name, don't wear it out." she whispered. I kneeled down and touched her cheek. She was defiantly real and warmer than usual. I scooped her up and held her.
"I thought y-you were d-dead." I choked out.
"I was. I guess my heart was still barely pumping. You melted the ice. All of it. Including the ice that was in me."
That was Rose for sure. She was back. And she was back to her normal smart, sweet self. She coughed and I noticed when she breathed she had wheezes. "Are you okay?" I asked.
"What do you think? I just came back from the dead by being burned. I also think I have some water in my lungs." At that moment I realized that the grass around my feet was catching fire and the water dripping off Rose was putting it out.
"We need to use that scale ASAP."
"Where is it?" She asked.
"In your pack."
"I'll get it I have the rest of the antidote ingredients in there.""Bottoms up." I said.
Rose and I both drank the antidote. It was like ice going down my throat. Then I got colder. And colder. Then I saw Rose sit down. She was changing rapidly from blue to skin colored with brown hair. I expected her eyes to go back to chocolate brown, and they did, but with flecks of blue in them. I sat down next to her.
She placed her head on my shoulder. "I'm glad that's over with." I said. She laughed and it was the best sound I had ever heard.
