Amity P.O.V.

"Kids! Get up now!" Edalyn's voice jolted Luz and I awake. With no snarky remarks or sneaky comments you could say it was unsettling.

"E-Eda what's wrong?" Luz peered over my shoulder still wrapped in my grasp.

"No time to explain! You two need to head back to that treehouse, and don't come back." At this point Luz had let go of me sitting herself up. Before either of us could interject Edalyn cast a spell teleporting Luz and I outside backpacks appearing onto our backs. Stumbling at the sudden fact I was now standing I caught myself as Luz grabbed ahold of my shoulder.

"Thanks." Luz nodded guiding us back down the path to the treehouse. "What do you think's going on?" Luz stopped looking back towards her house, which could no longer be seen.

"Nothing good..." Luz sighed returning her focus to the treehouse. "I...I don't want to worry about it too much."

"Are you sure you're doing okay?"

"I said I'm fine!" Luz whipped around narrowly missing me with her hand. Taken aback but what she nearly had done Luz took off towards the treehouse. Tears strolling down her face.

"Luz wait!" I tried my best to keep up with Luz but her head start made it nearly impossible. "Luz please slow down!"

"S-stay away from me Amity! I'll only get you hurt!!" Luz words made me stop. She was actually concerned she'd hurt me? I know she didn't mean it, so why is she so scared?

"Damnit where the hell am I?" Without Luz or illusions it was significantly harder to find my way around. I aimlessly wandered around luckily finding my way to the treehouse. Luz had already made it there and pulled up the ladder so I couldn't get up. "Luz! Please just talk to me." I kept my voice soft hoping it'd help Luz speak to me.

"Leave me alone!"

"I know that's not what you want. If anything you want me to stay."

"T-then just don't talk me!" I sighed casting an abomination spell. The abomination lifted me up onto the balcony causing Luz to flinch and hit her head on the wall. "Ow..."

"You okay there sweetheart?" I walked closer to Luz only making her back further away. Stopping I thought about how to approach this.

"No...I'm not okay..." Luz curled herself into a ball burying her face into her knees. "I haven't been since we saw D-dad and Zander...." Luz's voice broke as she spoke. "A-and when we joked around 'topping' each other....like an instinct I waited for you to do something, I-I wanted you to do something. I should've just said I was uncomfortable! I-it was like what my Dad did....."

"Oh Luz...." I took the opportunity to sit next to Luz keeping my distance. "Please tell me if something makes you uncomfortable. I never want to make you think of him, and if it's too hard to tell me I'll understand. The topic's recent so it's easy to tell your not passed it."

"It's not just that....I nearly hit you! I'm starting to act like him!" Luz uncurled herself raising her arms with her voice. "W-what if I become abusive?! I don't want to be like that!" Luz was speaking frantically her hands moving in response.

"Luz" I grabbed her wrists pulling her closer to me. "You're not like him. You're kind, sweet, optimistic, and absolutely adorable. You have too much good in you to turn into a monster like him." I let go of her wrists in which she returned back to where she sat rubbing her wrist with her other hand.

Luz P.O.V.

"There's no mark..." I traced over where Amity's fingers were. "That's a first... I mean you had a tight grip, but it was gentle..."

"S-sorry was that to much?"

"No, it's alright...I was too caught up in my own thoughts to listen...thank you. If anyone was gonna grab my wrists I'd rather it be you. I know your intentions." I sighed wondering what to say next. "You know...he wasn't always bad...my dad."

"Really? I find that a bit hard to believe." Amity scoffed at the mention of Dad.

"N-no I'm serious! He was a great guy! It's just...." I diverted my gaze from Amity. "He lost his job a-and we went into debt...he umm..he..." The words had me choked up. Memories flooded my brain good and bad. "He used drugs to cope...that's probably why he's so different now..." Amity grabbed my hand gaining my complete focus.

"Uhm doesn't jail have rehab...?"

"He probably faked it...Before anything happened to him and I he'd fight with mom. God they'd fight so much..." The days when Azura books helped me filled me with mixed emotions. "I used reading as an escape. Azura's fantasy life let me enter a world away from my problems."

"Heh, that makes my reason for reading Azura sound boring..."

"Like you could be boring." I nudged Amity's shoulder earning an adorable laugh. "So why do you read Azura?"

"To escape from my parents expectations. It's simple but it works y'know?" I nodded looking around the treehouse.

"Zander Dad and I built this treehouse together. I think it was a month or two before we fell into debt." Amity gritted her teeth tapping her fingers impatiently. "What?"

"Zander. He bothers me." Something about how protective Amity was acting made me giggle. Maybe it was how cute she looked, or that I knew she'd be there for me.

"You barely know him"

"I know enough"

"Before you he's who I talked to about my problems. So he's not entirely useless."

"Pretty damn close." I sighed keeping a newly formed smile on my face as I got closer to Amity. Planting a kiss on Amity's cheek which she wasn't expecting gave me a new sound from Amity. It was like a squeak sound nonetheless it suits Amity. "Why did I make that sound." Embarrassed Amity covered her mouth.

"I think it was adorable~"

"Hey that's my line!" Amity giggled placing her hand on my face. Rubbing her thumb below my eye where tears had fallen. Amity was quick to get lost in thought about what exactly I can't answer. What I do know is I have one of the cutest girlfriends in the world.
